Mika and Sarah
1st grade
Give an introductory homework email including the following for parents.
I would like for parents to be as involved as possible in their homework to make sure they have enough practice. The only homework students will be doing is small activities for practicing reading, math or spelling. There will be a goal to meet for each week and if they do not complete the goal they will be able to practice at home. We will collect homework and correct the homework but will not be giving grades. The purpose of the homework is to assess where students are at and for me to be able to do purposeful grouping in class.
If a parent asks for more homework, they will get a folder filled with possible activities students can do. If they ask for less, I will give a reminder that the student only needs to meet the goal of the week and once they have done that there is no need for more practice.

How might you go about organizing, what are are things to consider?
First challenge: having one parent want to do everything
Solutions:
-Have an online volunteer sign up sheet and communication platform
-Keep parents in one on one support areas.
-Allow them to volunteer for work (printing, laminating, etc.) that does not give them leadership over the class.
-Work with/establish a parent teacher association or committee.
Things to consider:
-Be aware of different or special treatment of their own kid
-Have specific tasks planned for the parents
-Stay organized and communicate well in advance
-Do not show favoritism of parents
