I agree with Caleb 100% because in the book it says "I will not be myself when I reach you" maying implying that she looks different in the near future. Also when reading the book I was very confused in why the author would spend so much time talking about time travel if it wasn't important, like in The Westing Game they wouldn't have spent so much time on the newspaper article if their were not any clues inside. She is probably going back from the near future to stop a tragic event that kills her friend. In the note it says "I am coming to save your friends life and my own."

In the time period that the laughing man came from Sal did get run over by the car which is the whole reason that all of this happened. But if he went back in time and changed that then wouldn't his time have changed so that in his past he came back and saved Sal? Like landing in the broccoli before they got back. In his time period then he would have seen himself save Sal. So then he would have not seen Sal die and would have not known it would kill him. So why did he say in the notes "...coming to save your friends life and my own." But then if he saw himself die he would have not wrote and my own knowing he didn't save his life.
