Did you know according to the ASPCA 8-12 million animals are put into shelters each year? That is 8-12 million dogs and cats without a place to call home, or a warm bed, or a family to love. I am urging you to consider adoption when it comes to your next pet and help save a life. I adopted my dog 3 years ago, before I got him he was in a home where he was mistreated often and developed a mistrust of people and other animals before long his owners dropped him off at a shelter and left. He did not take to the shelter well. The owners of the shelter knew he wouldn't last long and euthanization would have to be an option. When the shelter called and told me about him I knew I needed to be the one who saved him and 3 years later it was one of the best decisions of my life. He has come a long way and has learned to trust people again and allow others into his life. He loves unconditionally and knows now he is home and safe.
Now I want you to think about that number again, 8-12 million. How many of those animals do you believe end up in a forever home? According to the humane society of America on a good year, they are lucky if half of those pets get adopted. That’s nearly 4-6 million animals who were in my dog’s very situation. But many of those animals do not get the happy ending they deserve. While adoption rates are going up in America we need to do better, this is again why I urge you, if you or someone you know is thinking about bringing in a new member of the family adopt and don't shop.

Social distancing
To being, I was you all to understand the seriousness of the virus. Many people do not believe that the virus is real, or it “couldn’t happen to me”. The virus is very much real, and it can, and will happen to you if you do not follow guidelines. Yes, it is possible to get the virus f you follow guidelines, but your chance of contracting the virus will be significantly lowered. To put into perspective the seriousness of the situation. There have been 113 million people who have been reported to have contracted covid. Now I want to remind you there are plenty of people who are unreported, this, as well as the death count, may be much higher than we are told at the moment. Currently, there are 2.5 million that may just seem like a number, but imagine that was your family. Take a second to realize that these are people’s lives that are being ruined. If you have not yet been affected you may not understand. Speaking from personal experience I stress that you follow guidelines. Currently, I am being quarantined, but my mother is currently being treated in the hospital for her symptoms. If this doesn’t convince you I just want you to take a second and realize how silly it is to not follow the guidelines.a simple piece of cloth over your mouth AND nose as well as staying a little farther than usual from others.

Breakup Curfew
I know what you guys are thinking. You told me to be home by 10 and I came home at 11, but its not like that I promise. When I was at my friends house I was about to leave at 9:45 when she got a call that her boyfriend broke up with her. I didnt want to leave her all alone to be upset for the rest of the night. She was so sad and her sister wasn’t home to comfort her. She really needed me to be there. I should have called or texted you to let you know and im sorry. I know you always read online that kids my age should be home between 8 and 9 and you already let me push it to 10. I know like me to be home at a reasonable time so I can get enough sleep and have time for homework but, it was for a good reason so please dont ground me. It wont happen again, and if it does I will ask if its ok for me to stay next time.

Com that It provides parents and teens with a false sense of security. Most curfews are set from an autocratic standpoint. I understand why you put a curfew on me But I'm just asking for a little bit more time. Also Teenage curfew laws create unnecessary conflicts with today’s youth and police.
Most curfews are set from an autocratic standpoint. The standpoint that is set from it's not always a good point of view. Did you know that some teenage curfew rules can encourage rebellion. I really don't want it to get to that point Mom. I know in some places there can be legal consequences for violating curfews but im always Conscious of my surroundings who I hang out with. And it's not like I'm on the street I'm always either at my friend's house or At the movies bowling or at the mall. I will ask next time in advance thx.

In a study at Stanford University, they found out that students who spend too much time on their homework experience more stress and even health problems. I feel like if teachers give too much homework, students can actually get stressed out and since some students have jobs to work, they can stay up really late to finish their homework and only have a few hours of sleep. Whenever I have homework to do, I would finish it up but then realize that it can take up some time to finish all the homework to complete and I could've used that time to finish something useful at my house. Some other research also says that students that finish their homework also can help with their tests and can use their homeworks as study guides. This method can be a useful and a good thing. But too much of a good thing can be a bad thing. Teachers that assign a student too much homework can be very bad for the students brain and cause them to stress about their work. Sometimes homework does help me with certain stuff I am going to need more practice for. In other cases I feel like it can be useless because I already know a lot about that subject and feel like I don't need practice. So I think that teachers should stop assigning homeworks and to practice on tests and quizzes just assign study guides for studying.

I’m sorry for coming home late. I know I said I would come home earlier but let me explain myself. For starters, I am in my teenage years so it won’t be too long until I have to become an adult. I’m just trying to have the best time as much as I can. Also, it is to be said that “grounding just teaches kids how to “do time” and doesn't show them how to change their behavior.” Curfew can be looked at as a jail where you stay in a room for a certain amount of time until it's up and you're allowed to go. I know having a curfew can show me how to be responsible by showing me that I have to be home at a certain time but if I were just to stay at home everyday, by myself, it could cause mental problems. Staying out with my friends isn’t bad if it’s helping me.

Did you know that, while people like to think homework is really helpful and the more the better, too much of it could be harmful? Health line, for instance, states that students tend to get more homework than experts recommend. The national education association recommends a standard of 10 minutes of homework per grade level. IN 2015, after some investigation, the American Journal of Family Therapy found that schools in Rhode island gave students in kindergarten to second grade about 30 minutes worth of homework. When interviewing the parents of said children, it was found that family stress and tension was higher, especially with parents who didn't have college degrees. Throughout middle school, I would get roughly 2 - 2 ½ hours of homework in English and history class alone several days a week. Also keep in mind the fact that I don't have caretakers who are confident with helping me determine answers for homework. The work sheets or assignments given tended to be small project sized and required a long list of a dozen open ended questions or more to be answered. Math and science would mostly give worksheets containing a dozen or so problems all pertaining to the lesson being learned. They were simple, quick, organized and effective at getting the point across. While there will always be a difference between math and english related worksheets, I think that when making worksheets for english classes, the lessons and exact information that needs to be taught should be considered and if it is over a certain amount, the work should then be divided into several worksheets that can be done one at a time as opposed to just dumping a stack of worksheets on a student's desk and calling it a day. There’s nothing more terrifying and heart sinking than looking at a thick packet full of pages loaded with questions and all types of boxes and charts and being told it's due the next day or two days later at most.

Hello [Teacher’s Name], I hope that this isn’t a waste of your time, however, I have something to ask of you about the project that we were given about a week ago. Due to some setbacks in the projects and having to go back on multiple things, I don’t think I will be able to make the progress to catch up to the deadline in time. I wrote this message hoping that I could ask for anywhere between 2-4 extra days to finish the project so that I won’t lose the points that I need to keep an A in the class. I apologize for the ask, though this request is unusual due to, according to my grade book, the big majority of my grade book has been on-time assignments regularly. I ask of this as one of your trustworthy students, being dependable enough to make this extended deadline in time so I can finish the projects with the results shown that I did it with full effort. Thank you for your time
----
Regards, Justin Harris.

It is proven that teenagers do not get enough sleep at night. Teenagers need to sleep eight to ten hours a night but yet most sleep half of that or less. I know on school nights I only sleep three to four hours. Sleep benefits the brain and helps with things such as attention and memory, which are very important when it comes to school. When students are in class, the teachers want us to participate and gain something from the lesson that day but it is so hard when you are so tired. Focusing and memorization do not work well on not enough sleep so that is one of the reasons why students may not attain something from the class or they may doze off. This is why I feel that schools should eliminate all homework from classes.

Students wake up early in the morning to go to school all day, then they come home and have to do more school work for each of their classes. These assignments can take a long time to do and it gets very tiring when you have been doing it all day. Not only do we have to do school work when we get home but we have to do things such as chores, caring for siblings, cook dinner, get ready for the next day, etc. Additionally, some of us deal with personal things like mental health problems or eating disorders that can also be caused by lack of sleep. So why do we have all of these extra assignments for school when we already learned about it in school?! I understand that teachers give us homework to comprehend and remember what we learned in class that day but according to health professionals, it would be so much easier to remember if we got enough sleep! This is why I believe that homework should be eliminated from all classes, don’t you want us to actually learn something?

I think schools should eliminate homework. We already learn in school was the homework really necessary, it just eats up our free time. As the top ten says “it causes high-level stress” and it really does, as some kids do not get the assignment and they stress trying to figure it out and are scared to ask for help. It causes kids like myself to get overwhelmed and chose not to do it. Some kids need to get a good grade in school if not they’ll get in trouble with their parents and homework is around 15-20% of your grade so it’s necessary to do it and causes others to get tired and, get really bored of it and start procrastinating. Homework can cause issues with sleeping too late and sleeping too late causes kids to wake up late and missing school which is not good. Some kids have breakdowns because they get the really stressed and tired cause of homework which then, later on, get frustrated and don't do it. That is why I do not believe having homework we already spend hours in school doing classwork, it is just more stress.

Did you know that teenagers need about 8-10 hours of sleep but only get around half of this on average. I feel like homework isn’t really necessary for students. Some teachers expect us to do nothing but school work and it’s really upsetting. Kids can get hours of homework a night and end up spending almost 10-12 hours a day doing nothing but school work. Here's where the problem is, if teenagers were to get the right amount of sleep a night, we would be left with 2-4 hours of free time, this is including eating, showering, and other basic needs in this time. Teenagers have other things to do, they should not be spending half of their life wasting away in front of a textbook. This is what leads to the problem of teens not getting enough sleep, they sacrifice sleep for fun. I cannot say I’m not guilty of this because I am. On nights where I have to get up for school I get less than 5 hours of sleep. But when I don’t have to get up I will try to make up for my lost sleep by waking up a lot later. This makes my sleep schedule super messed up. According to Healthline, both the National Education Association and NPTA say that there should be no more than 10 minutes of work per grade level. I do not know how this hasn’t been dealt with yet when it is such a well known problem. I just hope it is taken care of soon. I’d like to be able to get a good amount of sleep every night and I’m sure the rest of my classmates would like to as well.
