Križevačko veliko spravišće /Great Fair Spravišće

Great Fair takes place during the first weekend of June every year since 1968.
This manifestation is based on the 14th century legend about the reconciliation of the citizens of Križevci (purgeri) and plum farmers (šljivari) from Kalnik.
The staging of the reconciliation is the main event, but you can also see many concerts and performances, exhibitions; traditional costumes, arts and crafts. You can try traditional food and local wine.(Križevci is well-known for the Statutes of Križevci- rules on companionable wine-drinking)
THE STORY BEHIND SPRAVIŠĆE:
For many years, there was a dispute between the citizens of Križevci and farmers from Kalnik because, in 1242, king Bela IV gave the noble status to the farmers because they saved his life during the Tartar siege of the Old Town of Kalnik.
This caused animosity between people from Kalnik and Križevci, but it stopped when a young man from Kalnik and a woman from Križevci fell in love and decided to get married. "Purgeri" and "Šljivari" reconciled and decided to have a three-day feast to celebrate the wedding and the reconciliation, and that is why Spravišće lasts for three days.
