Why do you think Bic made these pens?
Q2a. In addition to making pens, the company Bic makes other small, disposable plastic products, including razors. It has long sold razors that are marketed and packages as either for men or for women but are otherwise identical. Why did these products never face the public scrutiny that Bic for Her pens have?
2 b. What other products are naturalized as being for one gender or another? What strategies do the companies use to gender these products?
Q3a. What actual commercials for what kinds of products does Ellen’s fake Bic for Her commercial parody?
3b. What elements can you identify from real commercials? How does Ellen’s costume in the parody commercial differ from her clothing as host?

Question 1 answer- Because of the stereotypical thought that all girls love pink or pink is the color that "represents" them, BIC decided to make these pens. And we noticed that the ad also said that this was made to fit a girl's hand. So, another stereotypical thought comes out of this and that is that girls are meant to be "fragile."

Question 2 answer- Because all of the society has changed to think pink represents girl.
Except for the pens, everything is identical. The packaging is the place where there is a difference gender wise.

Question 3a- She was faking the company Bic. Ellen was saying to her daughter as a joke that "it's simple enough, that even a woman can understand them." (she was talking about the instructions)
Question 3b- Ellen has changed her outfit. Before she was wearing a pantsuit and during the commercial parody, she is wearing jeans and a normal sweater. Other than that, she is wearing a wig with medium length blonde hair.

Answer 1. We think that they made these pens so they are in more 'feminine colours'. Also so they might have made them smaller in size so it is 'easier' for women to hold.

Answer 2. We think the razors did not face public scrutiny because in most cases razors for him and her are different. On the other hand pens are not gendered.

2b.

3. We think that Ellen is trying to show that there are some products/ads that are discriminating a gender, and demeaning them.

3b. We can see that in the parody Ellen in wearing stereotypical ' Womans Clothes'. We think this is different from her regular wardrobe.

Ans 1) We think that Bic made these pens because they wanted to increase their sales. They thought that they will profit if they make special pens for women. This will be because they thought that women will appreciate this product and will use this as a marketeer.

Ans 2) They didn't face public scrutiny as this company has a very large business and few public comments cant ruin their company's reputation. We also think that the company did not face any scrutiny because most of the people in the world have a stereo-typical belief that pink colour is for females and blue for Males

Ans 3)
