I hope to gain better listening skills and to get better in conducting ourselves without a conductor. I wish to gain more leadership when it comes to leading a piece during a performance. Refining and making small details to overall enhance the music is also a plus. I also wish to learn how to be precise, especially when it comes to performing parts individually. The pieces that we chose for this project were a way to show our strengths and to challenge ourselves to be better. We have progressed so much from March, and all of our planned music has gone the way we wanted it to. So far, we have nearly mastered all the music at a fairly original tempo. There are some pieces that do need a little more attention than others such as the double violin concertos (Bach and Vivaldi). We are currently working on cleaning up these pieces and making sure we individually working on the parts we are stumbling on. This movement is particularly tricky because it is more fast pace and has double stops and moving sixteenth notes. The way I am practicing this piece is by using a metronome and slowly getting the piece up to the original speed. Our performance today, I think, was a great reflection of the work we put in. There might have been some adversities like counting off and starting our pieces without speech and some tricky runs, but we eventually started and ended the pieces the way we practiced. I am fully content with the way our performance turned out and I truly believe that no other combination of a group could yield the satisfaction I felt from these particular group members and pieces. I have learned so much through our practicing and performance and I will use this experience for the rest of my musical career. I learned a lot about listening to each other and understanding where each individual part fits into a piece. I also learned how to play cohesively as a small group and how to regroup, should we ever get lost during the extent of the piece. I feel like the next time I do this, I will make sure our group practices how we are actually going to perform on the day of the performance so that there aren't any bumps in the road, come performance day.
