The natural textures, smells, and sensations of clay and mud inspired creativity and allowed freer, more expressive mark-making.

Outdoors acted as the “third teacher” by offering open-ended materials, sensory experiences, and a dynamic setting that shaped curiosity, play, and learning.

Opportunities support learning by connecting children with nature, fostering creativity, problem-solving, and deeper awareness of the environment.

4) How might you adapt or extend this experience to further support diverse learning styles and developmental needs in outdoor creative play?

By offering varied materials, sensory tools, and flexible tasks, I can support different learning styles. Adding storytelling, group collaboration, or fine-motor challenges extends the experience to meet diverse developmental needs.

2) Nature gave many tools and materials to explore. The space encouraged children to share, talk, and play together.

最后，我会和孩子们在户外尝试“自然材料拼贴画”活动，收集树叶、树枝、石子等自然材料，拼贴成各种有趣的图案。

2) Being in the outdoor environment will encourage children to explore, experiment, and create their crafts using natural materials and support their sensory experiences. The environment allows opportunities for children to construct knowledge with the nature around them.

3) The acticities supported learning in the outdoors by immersing children directly in a natural environment, allowing them to engage all their senses.

4) I can extend by adding opportunities for storytelling, or music alongside the learning in/through/about the outdoor. This will encourage social and imaginative development for the diverse learners.

5) For the PG children, I will most likely implement the mud moulding activity. Allow children to explore the sensorial activity.

1. I feel that observing the environment tied in with authentic learning. I don’t just get a picture reference, I get the full experience of understanding what I wanted to recreate, like the colours, the tone, the shape, the movement and the different angles.

2. Being outdoors with a scenery like this definitely calms my mind and body allowing me to focus better. I’m able to put everything aside and connect with my creativity skills a lot better.

3. For learning in the outdoors, i feel that children get to create large scale experiences. They get to sit on the floor and create work that is bigger than a typical A4 sized paper in class. For learning about the outdoors, children get to be aware of natural resources such as clay and where they come from. For learning through outdoors, i feel that it contributes a lot to a child’s holistic development.

4. I can provide a variety of materials and also create different objectives for different needs of children which also includes the level of readiness for the activity. Some may explore the clay with their hands and do some creations, some may choose to use tools to explore the clay instead.

5. I think i will be experimenting both, the clay creation and the clay painting as they’re both really fun and interesting!

I will be trying the mud marking activity with the children in my class.

It was a wonderful way to connect with nature, relax the mind, and express creativity through hands-on art. A perfect blend of learning and play!
