Summary

So, it's about the conversation between 2 girls or 2 international students. The first girl is Damita Menezes. She is a host and the owner of that podcast channel that I've been listening to, called Global Talks and Tunes. I was amazed when I found this podcast channel because it's so interesting. In her podcast, talks stalk about different cultures in many countries, especially and basically from foreign students' experiences. And in this session, she brings the topic "Comparing Degrees and Countries" with another foreign student, Masa Najjar. Masa is a foreign student in Lebanon, but she is American-Syrian that grew up in Chicago, US. But when she graduated from high school, she decided to explore new things in her own life, especially to study abroad in Lebanon. Because she thinks it's so good for our mentality, more open to the world, and so many more experiences that we can gain and it doesn't if we are just in our hometown or our comfort zones.
But, of course, the culture in Lebanon is very different from the US, especially in Chicago, her hometown. So, what are the culture shocks that Masa feels or experiences while in Lebanon which is certainly different from the US?

1. Her American accent. She feels like her voice is so weird and annoying. Not because of a language. But because she was not familiar yet and also she didn't know anyone, it was kind of a struggle, even grocery shopping, it's hard for her.
2. In her college in Lebanon, didn't have a radio station or any student publications. It's a very different situation from American University which provided all media for a student publication.
3. Deal with making new friends, and understanding the culture as an international student it's very complicated because many people in Lebanon didn't like to open up to strangers. But, when we got inside tr environment, people are very hospitable and generous. Yeah, but also can be different for welcoming all.

In my opinion, I agree and can relate to what Masa or Damita said. Studying abroad can bring us different experiences because we met people, with habits, behavior, experience, character, and many more. So, if we talk or get a conversation with them, we can gain many new insights and can open our minds that the world is so complex.
Now, I want to react to Masa's experiences while she the study abroad in Lebanon.
The first is about her American accent. Yeah, it's kind of normal if she got struggling to adapt to a new environment, and new culture because it's so different from her own culture.
The second is about her college in Lebanon that didn't have student publications. I feel that because we know that Lebanon is a country prone to war. It is possible that the institution doesn't interact much with the public, one of which may be because it is to protect the personal data of its students so that unwanted things do not happen.
The last is about making new friends and understanding their culture is so difficult for the first time. And I can say that's very normal considering that Lebanon is a country that is vulnerable to war. Maybe this has caused trauma for the residents to be open to foreigners, especially from abroad.

I enjoyed listening to this podcast because the topic it's so interesting. And also the pronunciation was familiar to me because I often listen for the American accent. But I still learned to listen again and again because sometimes some words are hard to catch. But overall is good for me, because it's just about listening to people talk in daily conversation.
