Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809, in a small cabin in Kentucky. He grew up in a poor family and worked hard to educate himself. As a young man, he studied law and eventually became a lawyer. Lincoln entered politics and served in the Illinois state legislature before he won the presidency in 1860.

In 1861, he became the 16th president of the United States. During his time in office, Lincoln led the country through the Civil War, a conflict that tore apart the nation. He believed strongly in freedom and fought to end slavery. In 1863, he signed the Emancipation Proclamation, which declared that all slaves in Confederate states were free. This decision changed the course of American history and inspired millions.

Sadly, on April 14, 1865, Lincoln was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth at Ford’s Theatre.

Martin Luther (1483-1546) was a German theologian and reformer, known for being one of the central figures of the Protestant Reformation. He was born on November 10, 1483, in Eisleben, Germany, into a family of miners. He studied at the University of Erfurt, where he earned his degree and later became an Augustinian monk. Luther sought to understand the Christian faith deeply, and as he delved into the Scriptures, he began to question various practices of the Catholic Church, especially the sale of indulgences. In 1517, he published his "95 Theses," a document that criticized these practices and advocated for the need for reforms within the Church. His ideas spread rapidly, thanks to the invention of the printing press, and generated significant theological and social debate. Luther defended justification by faith and the authority of Scripture over ecclesiastical tradition, proposing that salvation was a gift from God, accessible to all believers.

In 1521, he was summoned to the Diet of Worms, where he refused to retract his writings. This led to his excommunication by Pope Leo X and his declaration as a heretic by Emperor Charles V. Despite this, he continued his reformative work, translated the Bible into German, and established a new liturgy.

Luther also influenced the politics and culture of his time, promoted the idea of a universal priesthood, and emphasized the education of laypeople. He died on February 18, 1546, in his hometown, leaving a lasting legacy that impacted not only religion but also European history. His life and work laid the foundations for Protestantism and changed the course of Western history.
