Cyprus uses the international trade model. Most of its economic output comes from the service sector, which includes trade, tourism, and education. The island of Cyprus is located in the Mediterranean Sea between three continents (Europe, Africa, and Asia), and has thus developed into a trade center between them through its access to trade routes. The country of Cyprus is dependent on imports for some raw materials such as fuel (for electricity). It is dependent upon these imports so it cannot use the self-sufficiency model of development.

EU-28, a group of countries including Cyprus, has were it's life expectancy at birth has grow rapidly over the last century. The cause of this action is the reductions in infant mortality, the rising of living standards, improved lifestyles, better education, and also advances in healthcare and medicine. Because of these factors, life expectancy at birth has increased by about ten years for both genders over the past 50 years. Also, during the 10 years from 2004 to 2014 the infant mortality rate fell by more than a fourth. Another point that supports longevity in Cyprus is that in EU-28 Cyprus had the lowest infant mortality rate.

In 8,000 BC, animals such as cattle and pigs were brought to the island. The bronze age came in 1950 BC and that's when copper mining began. The first Geek settlers established cities in 750 BC. In 350 BC, Alexander the great wanted to usher a new era and take over but died later on. Cyprus was annexed by the Ottoman Empire in 58 BC. In 45 AD, Christianity made its first appearance on the island. British had control of Cyprus until 1960 when Cyprus finally gained independence. In 1974, a war broke out between Turkey and Cyprus. Turkey had won, Leaving Cyprus devastated with deaths. Since than, They have had a growing economy.

The youth unemployment rates for men and women are also different, with women also leading in this category with 34.65% and the males with 37.4%. The previously stated statistics prove that in Cyprus, women play a large role in the play that is economics.
