In this piece, I was aiming on mastering the the technique of paint dripping. I also worked on making a pie chart, and making it look like the colors are melting away. Blending is the skills that is my strength, so I used it to blend the "melted" colors from the pie chart, into the middle part of the body. Then, the colors from the middle part of the body form the lower part of the body, by turning and twisting into branches. The reason why I chose white as the dripping paint color, was because the piece focused on the colors of the rainbow, and white was a good touch to make the rest of the colors stand out. The background also consists of the technique of blending by going from dark blue, to light blue, and back to dark blue. This project took me about two weeks, and I'm feeling pretty satisfied with it, since I did not expect it to be this way. I never really had a plan in mind of what the character would look like, but it just formed into this as I went on. If I were to do this project differently, I would use less bright colors, because I feel like the pie chart takes away from the piece.

Date of Completion: 11/28/15

This piece really focused on the shading and blending details of flowers that I saw in my sketches when I went to go visit places during my lunch hour to draw. The main focus of the piece is the middle orange-yellow with green flowers. The pedals of the flowers go from a nice, poppy orange to a smooth, calm yellow. Furthermore, I used water color pencils for the leaves, which I found fun and interesting to use. I used black oil paint for the middle core of the flower to make it pop and wanted to create a poppy look for the middle portion. I used a blending tool for the pedals of the surrounding flowers, and used a simple wooden pencil to create an old, back & white effect. Overall, I was pretty happy with this piece because I was able to show my skills of blending and shading. If I were to do this project differently, I would have a variety of flowers in the background rather than just sticking to one type, because it would make the background more intricate and interesting, which would have made the piece more complex.

Date of Completion: 11/15/15

In this piece, I used the skeleton that was displayed on my table. I worked on using the blind vision technique, where you do not look at your paper while drawing. This technique, I found quite difficult and frustrating. However, I discovered that I was actually able to create cracks and curves that I normally would not make when looking while I draw. I used the hand piece, which I used for the blind vision, and added new lines/curves and darker areas. In my character project, I used the dripping paint method, and I felt that I had done it well in that piece, so I decided to continue it in this piece as well! I left the bones white to make them dull, and I dripped red paint to create a horror move effect. The people in the background, I found in a Time magazine and found their facial expressions quite interesting, and mysterious as well, and I decided that it would be a nice touch for the horror effect. Overall, the hand bone and the skull were pretty successful. If I were to do this project differently, I would add more pieces of bone and skeleton to emphasize the theme of death and horror more.

Date of Completion: 12/15/15

The Intricate Peacock

The Intricate Peacock is what I named this piece because I wanted the peacock leaf to be something very different that not many people can guess. I used different colors from magazine in the back of the room, in the drawers, and I cut out different shades of blue and green. I combined the colors that I cut out from the magazine to blended the different shades. I worked on creating more of a flow by starting with bright yellow, and curving down into a deep "sea" of blue and green. Peacock feathers also have fringes at the bottom, and I cut the piece into little pieces and did not fully glue it on the portrait in order to create a "3D" effect. While researching, I also learned that a peacock represents vision, new, integrity, beauty, and perseverance in many different cultures and perspectives. I tried to share this meaning with my audience, my plastering the works in cursive. I want to stick with creating the antique, old theme by using sand paper to smoothen down the words, which I used oil paint to write out in cursive. With the background, I used oil paint (crimson red and brown) and worked on using my blending technique. I also used sandpaper to smoothen down and create an old look with the background as well. Overall, I was happy and proud of the piece because it turned out to be much better than I thought and unexpected. However, if I were to do this piece differently, I would have less words because I feel like in the end, it did take away a little attention from the peacock, which was meant to be the core and main key of attention in my piece.

Date of Completion: 10/28/15

Group Effort Project -- Character

I this project, Caitlyn and I worked on it together. We used a coating to polish it up, as well as mostly acrylic paint and oil pastels. We used oil pastels to create a "fire" look and warm colors to blend together. We used black acrylic paint to plaster and stretch-out the tornado and strips of magazine. The objects in the background are supposed to be flying our of the tornado. The grass and the hills in the background go from dark to light, so we were able to work on our blending technique. The background objects include a car, a couch, a comb, the American flag, and the Eifell tower. However, when I look back on this project, if I were to do it again and differently, I would make the objects appear as if they are different distances away from each other.. some far away and some close by just to make it more interesting to look at, but overall, I was really proud of the project because I think we did a good job blending, flowing, and just overall tying everything together.
