Teachers are usually trained as professionals in some way.
Non-formal learning – This type of education may be led by a qualified teacher or by a leader with more experience. Though it doesn’t result in a formal degree or diploma, non-formal education is highly enriching and builds an individual’s skills and capacities. Continuing education courses are an example for adults. Girl guides and boy scouts are an example for children. It is often considered more engaging, as the learner’s interest is a driving force behind their participation.
Informal learning – The teacher is simply someone with more experience such as a parent, grandparent or a friend. “A Personal Learning Network is a way of describing the group of people that you connect with to learn their ideas, their questions, their reflections, and their references. Your PLN is not limited to online interactions, but it is that online, global interactive part that really makes it special. It is personal because you choose who’s part of that group; you choose if you want to lurk–just check out what people are saying–or if you share; because you choose when to do so, and how to do so.”
So, in my opinion, Professional Learning Network is a natural extension of the way people learn–by connecting with others who have shared interests, ideas, or resources.

Usually social media is a way to stay in touch with friends and family, and it's the ideal medium to share life's major details. But many teachers, myself included, have found another way to make social media work — by using Facebook groups, Twitter chats and Instagram posts to share ideas, resources and insight with a large network of like-minded educators.
It would be very useful having recourse to social medias because it's teacher-facilited, it's convenient, and it's self-direct.
