What weakens the novel's characters?Ebenezer Scrooge gets strength from the three Ghost that follows him around. When he sees Tiny Tim in Stave Three, he "was overcome with penitence and grief" as he hears the ghost repeat his comment about the poor being the "surplus population". Scrooge's weakness is, Scrooge had a bad past that he tried to forget that might have contributed to his cold nature.

What happened in the book you read today? What characters have you met so far?

I was introduced to characters and told a short story about how a “Mr. Hyde” trampled over a young girl and didn't care about it, and paid them to not make a big deal about it. He wrote a check and even went to the bank to prove that he could cash it out. I was introduced to Mr. Utterson, who according to page 1, was “the lawyer was a man of a rugged countenance, that was never lighted by a smile; cold, scanty and embarrassed in discourse; backward in sentiment; lean, long, dusty, dreary and yet somehow lovable”

In the preface of the book, Mr. Utterson is talking with “his distant kinsman, Mr. Richard Enfield”

Find a quote that stands out to you and explain why you chose it.

“...then came the horrible part of the thing; for the man trampled calmly over the child's body and left her screaming on the ground. It sounds nothing to hear, but it was hellish to see. It wasn't like a man; it was like some damned Juggernaut.” Here Mr. Enfield is describing something he saw, which was Mr. Hyde trampling a girl and not caring at all. This is vary abnormal for human behavior and that is why it did it to me in contrast to the other text read today.

(Grant Barney)

Did you ever hear the tragedy of Darth Plagueis The Wise? I thought not. It’s not a story the Jedi would tell you. It’s a Sith legend. Darth Plagueis was a Dark Lord of the Sith, so powerful and so wise he could use the Force to influence the midichlorians to create life… He had such a knowledge of the dark side that he could even keep the ones he cared about from dying. The dark side of the Force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural. He became so powerful… the only thing he was afraid of was losing his power, which eventually, of course, he did. Unfortunately, he taught his apprentice everything he knew, then his apprentice killed him in his sleep. Ironic. He could save others from death, but not himself.

While they were stopped they witnessed a man on a sleigh being pulled by dogs and they were very confused, but could do nothing about it because they were so far away so they all caught up on some sleep and hoped that the ice would be melted in the morning. Luckily enough it was, and they also found a man on the side of their ship. They brought him aboard because they noticed that his health and the condition of his body was not in great shape at all. So they brought him up and took care of him and made him healthy again. I think it’s great that they were able to help someone out although they were on a voyage and a had a mission of their own.
