The empire had more manpower and more modern weapons. Emperor Hirohito ruled the country during the Meiji restoration period. The country first had no natural resources, like none. They wanted them, so they POW POW POW through Asia and they got them. After that, they went on drill through Malaya, and then Singapore, the Brits surrendered. After that, the soldiers, including the Australians, British, Indian soldiers and they became POWS (prisoners-of-war). Then Singapore went on to suffer for 3 whole years, and after that 3 years, the Americans stepped up with a Atomic Bomb, called Little Boy. They exploded it on Hiroshima, devastating it. After that, they created another called “Fat Man” and launched it on Nagasaki. Both cities were devastated causing Japan to surrender. The British came back to Singapore and the Singaporeans celebrated. The British then tried to fix what damage the Japanese done to Singapore, but the Singaporeans found the Brits are non-capable rulers of Singapore. Long Story short, Singapore gained self-government during 1959, being able to pick out who should be their president, Lee Kuan Yew ruled during this time. Someone called David Saul Marshall became the ruler of the Workers Party, Lee Kuan Yew managed to make Singapore a better society by thinking up a dam called Marina Barrage. Lim Kim San established HDB, and they built LOTS of flats, and then Lee stepped down as Prime Minister in 1990, but remained in the Cabinet and served as Senior Minister until 2004, and minister mentor until 2011, he died on 2015, caused by Pneumonia. He made Singapore what it is today.
