This type of behavior is also called innate behavior. It is a behavior that is not taught but is simply done by instinct. The environment is constantly changing and instinct behavior is a response to the environment. Sense organs have specialized cells with receptors that detect changes and tell the brain what to do. This behavior is necessary for certain organisms in order for them to survive.

Newly hatched sea turtles provide an example of instinct or innate behavior. When born, they are not taught to move towards the ocean. Instinctively, they dig themselves out of their nest when hatched. Then they orient themselves towards the horizon in order to reach the sea. When this hatching process occurs, the sea turtles do not have their mother to teach them this behavior. Instead they do it instinctively from generation to generation.

Instinctive behavior is a form of adaption for animals. It acts as a way to increase the animals fitness. It gives it the ability to survive in its environment without having to be taught how to do so. They develop as hereditary traits which is adapted by a species in order to increase its fitness.

For baby turtles, this instinctive behavior is a necessity that was adapted in order to survive. If the sea turtles weren't to have this instinctive behavior, they would not be able to survive on the land as they would be consumed by predators such as crabs, lizards, and racoons. Inclusively, sea turtles have adapted to living in the sea. Therefore this instinctive behavior serves as an adaptation that takes the sea turtles to the environment in which they have the highest chances of survival; thus increasing their fitness.

I believe that social behaviors are an essential aspect of increasing the fitness of an animal. For instance, without instinctive behavior many animals, including young turtles, would not survive. The social behaviors of an animal teach the animal how to survive within its environment thus increasing its fitness. Without these social behaviors many species would not survive or become extinct because they would not have a selective advantage against predators.
