The journal should capture your thinking and development in the following areas: 1) your interpretations and syntheses of course readings so far; 2) your reflection on class discussion, activities, and assignments. In addition to the main takeaways from the module’s readings and activities, your journal should highlight the affordances and constraints of how the digital tool will be used in your discipline. 

Depending on your tool selection, some of your journals may be video and/or audio entries, but they should be equivalent to about 300-500 words. You may simply provide a link to your journal within this submission space depending on the tool you utilized.

UDL is defined as the removal of barriers that allows education to be inclusive for all students regardless of disabilities or other barriers within education. By implementing UDL into our own classrooms we are presenting information in a way that is able to be reached by all of our students. While implementing UDL into our classrooms may seem hard we have to remember that we are designing our classrooms not for ease of us as educators but for our students. Putting in the work to make these classrooms inclusive means that down the line our classrooms can only get better as we work through what helps our students and what might not. 
 
Another aspect of the readings this week was focused on the literacy of coding in classrooms. Engineering and computer science have been growing fields within the last decade and a focus on how to prepare students for these fields is an important discussion we need to be having within our districts. Coding is discussed through these readings as a new literacy language that needs to be taught within the schools. For me this raises questions on who will be teaching these classes and how/ when we are introducing it to students. One of my friends is a math teacher in the suburbs and even though he has no prior coding experience he has been given all of the computer science courses within his district. If we are going to properly introduce coding into the general education of students, we need to start by hiring and finding educators who are actually fluent and educated in computer science/coding.
 
For this post I have decided to use Padlet to produce my reading journal. I think that this is a great tool for discussions and pre lesson discussions. However, I find that using it for this longer post is a little more challenging due to the length of it and the design of the padlet. Another issue is that it gets a little jumbled attempting to read all of the posts if there are more than a few sentences in each. The scrolling back and forth could lead to students not reading each post as thoughtfully as a typical discussion board. However, I think it will be useful for some discussions in class.
