Introduction

As we all know, English is a language spoken and written by many people around the world. It is considered as one of most important language of the world. It is widely spoken across the globe even the internet. It is an official language in 52 countries, The Prime Minister oh Malaysia has once said,” English language has an impact in the advancement and growth in Malaysia”. GigVaganza was established in Universiti Malaysia Pahang at the year of 2010 by Dr. Hafizoah Kassim. He was the founder of Get into Grammar. The objective of this program is to improve the proficiency of English language among diploma students. But for this year, GigVaganza was open and organized to the public institutions which include primary and secondary schools. The main lesson it is open to the public is to fulfill the objective of the committee service programme in Universiti Malaysia Pahang. The programme Director Madam Faridah Binti Hamzah said,” Grammar is Fun”. GigVaganza (2) 2014 was organized on the 11th of November 2014.This programme is specialized to primary students throughout the whole region of Pahang.24 schools are invited to this event and participate. At the same time, it allows primary student to experience university’s environment which may open their minds and thought to a whole new level. This event started off with the grand opening ceremony of GigVaganza (2) 2014.And the flow of the games in the morning and afternoon session and finally the closing ceremony of the event.

Opening ceremony

First and foremost, the grand opening ceremony of GigVaganza (2) 2014 started at 8.00 a.m sharp. All 24 schools from Pekan arrived accordingly and straight ahead to the registration counter to register for the participation. The buzz of the crowd and the cool crisp morning air caused us to have goose bumps all over our bodies. Then we saw the committee members of GigVaganza promptly facilitate and lead the pupils to their respective are as the clock strikes 8.30 a.m. Suddenly, the thick, burnt scent of roasted coffee tickled the tip of our nose which showed it is the time for breakfast. The menu of our breakfast which the most popular Malaysia dish,” Nasi Lemak” and the hot brewed. The hot and mouth-watering ‘Nasi Lemak’ is brought out by the committee members as one after one distributed to the pupils. The smile and eager of the pupil to start their breakfast in cold morning makes us hungry as well. We saw many students come from different backgrounds and different walks of life which boosted up our curiosity to speak and talk with them. The high pitch sound of the speakers shocked all of us resembled is the starting of the opening ceremony speech. The short speech was given by Madam Faridah Binti Hamzah about the background of this events and instructions to the students. The students screamed and thrilled for the event to start. To sum up, the opening ceremony amazed all of us as it bring us back to our childhood time and longing for the long-gone moment.

Morning and Evening session

What is more, after the opening ceremony ended, the morning session for GigVaganza (2) 2014 has began and then continued with the afternoon session. The morning session was conducted from 9.00 a.m to 12.45 p.m while the afternoon session was conducted from 1.50p.m to 4.00p.m. In the morning session, there were 12 booths that hosted their game however the other 12 schools will play the games. The participants of the 12 teams started their game at 10.00 a.m sharp. They enjoyed playing at the booth that is decorated with creative and colourful decorations and tricky games. All the participants were over the moon with the extraordinary games. Moreover, there were many types of interesting and joyful games created by the hosted team. For instances, there were a few booth that conducted their games toward physical activities like dancing, star-jumping and singing. And as the punishment of not able to complete the games was even extraordinary that is inserting the participants palm and face into a box full with sticky starch. On the other hand, thinking skills are also needed to complete the task given by the participants. At the end of the afternoon session, an evaluation task is carried out by the teachers and lecturers towards the participants and the hosting team quality and attitude throughout the session. Besides all the committee members are also given a chance to vote for the best players and the best booth. Consequently, we texted that the flow of the event was conducted perfectly and such a delightful event to visit in Universiti Malaysia Pahang.

Closing ceremony

Finally, the event ended with the closing ceremony of GigVaganza (2) 2014. It started off with an emphatic and motivated speech given by the representer of Universiti Malaysia Pahang, Madam Faridah Binti Hamzah. Next, moving on the representer of the school teachers, Puan Siti Hebat Fatimah Binti Daud.In her well spoken speech, she expressed her gratitude to all lecturers and committee members of Universiti Malaysia Pahang in providing a complete hospitality to all students of primary schools. After the impressive speech, it is time for the rewards to all participants who participated and hosted the best. There were two awards available which are the most creative booth and the most active players. The winner for the most creative booth was SK Pekan Jaya and the winner of the best players goes to SK Tanah Puteh. Reward such as certificate, gifts and etc are kept in beautiful wrapping basket. After, the buses arrived at the bus stop to pick all the students back. The students waved at us happily and went off. After that, the committee members started to clean the hall cooperatively. As a saying goes, many hands make light work. We ended our journey of GigVaganza with a cup of tea and a slice of bread with committee members and lecturers at the dining hall. Our laughter and chatter at the dining hall enlighten the fatigue and quiet environment created by the exhausted committee members. What can we conclude is that event was successful and the most crucial objective was achieved.

Conclusion

All in all, “An event is not defined by a Facebook photo, by a like or a comment, that does not define an event that is conducted”. This saying explains an event is not an easy task to accomplish therefore, judgments and comments from others does not matter if the objective of the event is achieved. A precise event includes, a grand opening ceremony, the morning and afternoon of overall event and finally the wonderful closing ceremony. This event actually gives a positive impact to the university in terms of discipline, keep in learning qualities and etc. As English is the second language frequently used in Malaysia, it is essential and crucial to conduct several or plenty of these events to give awareness to the public and the university’s students to enhance their English proficiency to a higher level of English. For instances, s we can see in this event that learning English can be in the fun way and not necessary to learn in a close classroom but in indoors or outdoors with different types of games. As the saying goes,”All work no play makes Jack a dull boy”. In conclusion, Malaysian students should take this opportunity to participate in any English events if there is any to learn English more and better in a fun way.
