Books have been banned as recently as the 90s. Where Harry Potter was banned for promoting magic spells and curses.
The reasons for banning books can be pretty trivial, like banning them for magic or talking animals.
The people who ban these books don't understand the deeper meaning or purpose of the book. The outsiders shed a light on the harsh conditions and lives of some young boys in gangs in America, but it was still blindly banned and dismissed and violent.
