Realising the Fault

After our first few days of shooting at the Barbican, and box park, we initially assumed that our footage was good because we had a fun time filming. Unfortunately until we finally reviewed the footage formally, we realised that our footage didn't do a few things:

* The footage was not smooth on the fig rig, and often would jog uncontrollably
* I was doing too much at once: i wasn't focusing on doing base tracks at different angles, instead I was filming close ups, long shots, feet work, hand movements, and transition shots, all at the same time.

This Youtube video showed me how a freelancer filmed music videos for artists on his own. I learnt a trick he used to keep consistent, stable, camera movements:
(see diagram below)

This video taught me about what B roll is- extra footage that can be in slow motion, of the surroundings in the setting, including the artist performing (in slow motion). It showed me that it could be shot without it being part of a base track. Using this will help me to not tend to try and 'film everything at once'.

Watching these videos (and more), showed me how to film base tracks without the need to try and film everything at once. They have taught me that it is better to film at each angle at a time, and be as steady as possible. I have also found it essential that we review each of our footage after we had shot it, to avoid disappointment when we formally review them.
To do for nest shooting:
*Try and use some of the teqchniches I saw on videos
*Make a more focused shotlist of shots we liked in our first footage, but needed improvements on, including shots we did not get round to filming
