Later it is found out they are sent there by a group of people that call themselves W.I.C.K.E.D and that Thomas and Teresa worked for them. Bella goes into a deep depression, and she starts hanging out with Jacob, the depression eased up but she becomes an adrenaline junkie and does dangerous stunts because her subconscious makes her see Edward when she's in danger. Jacob starts avoiding her and won't answer her calls she eventually get enough and drives out to the reservation and they get in a big fight. Later she goes to her and Edward's meadow, where she see Leron and he tries to kell her but a pack of HUGE wolves save her. She Tells her father and they start a hunt for the wolves. Jacob comes by later and apologizes and tries to explain why he is acting so strange. Later Bella realizes that he was trying to tell her he is a werewolf and she drives to the reservation the next day that's when everything falls into place. The werewolves figure out what Victoria's after and during one of their hunts for Victoria Charlie and Harry Clearwater see the wolves, Harry has a heart attack, Bella goes cliff jumping and almost drowns, but Jacob saves her. Bella follows Jacob around and ask him all sorts of questions. He ends up telling her the legend of their tribe and about the cold ones. Later Bella goes to Seattle with Angela and Jessica so they can go shopping for prom dresses, Bella goes to a bookstore while they are doing that and she finds a book about the tribe's legends which explains more about the cold ones. On her way back to meet up with jessica and Angela she goes into a dark alley way where some sketchy guys harass her Edward comes to her rescue and takes her where she is supposed to go and finds out Angela and Jessica already ate and are leaving. Edward make sure she eats and this is where seh find out Edward can read minds She developes and Edward confesses he doesn't have the strength to stay away from her anymore. Bella and Edward become a couple and one day he takes her to play baseball with his family. The next morning, strange things happen; the rescuers are found hung, dead in a room, the windows were blocked with bricks, and later the body's of the rescuers were missing. After Thomas thinks of where Teresa could be he runs to her room. When he opens the door, Teresa is gone, and seemed to be replaced by a boy named Aris. The Gladers Demanded an explanation from Aris, he said he came from the maze and he was surrounded by a group of girls who to the Gladers, were called group B. It was the same story the gladers went through, almost exactly the same, it scared most of the Gladers. Later on they find a man who they now call "rat man", and he explains what was going on. He explained how the maze was a plan, how they were infected with the flare, and how they would get the cure. He said the maze was only phase one of the WICKED project, and it was now time for phase two, The Scorch Trials. The Gladers were instructed to go through a device called a flat trans. The second they went through it was completely dark, and the further the got in the more dangerous it became. Metal spheres were dropping from the ceiling with sharp blades killing two Gladers, but they were finally able to get out.The second they got out it was as bright as the sun itself, and they had to cover themselves up with what they had. They ate and drank as much as they could as they could as they were walking towards what looked like a city, but it looked like a storm was coming. At first the storm just seemed like rain, but then came fierce winds and deadly sparks of lightning. 7 Gladers died in the storm, so now only 11 Gladers remained. they were found by a group of cranks hidden in the building where the Gladers  ran to hide from the storm. The Leader insulted Minho and then Minho beat him up, which made the leader, whose name was George, called his friends and threatened to kill Minho, but Thomas made a deal with him, if they protected the Gladers and get them to the safe heaven, its possible they could get the cure for the flare. The Leader had a friend named Brenda who seemed to like Thomas.  There was an attack on them by no one knows who, and Thomas gets stuck with Brenda, and they end up protecting themselves from two other crank groups. When they regroup again, Thomas gets shot by a random crank, but is saved when something called a girl picks him up and restores him. As the Gladers continue their journey, They find group B, and it seems Teresa is their Leader. Teresa starts to act like a traitor to Thomas and the Gladers, and then so does Aris, and they both put Thomas in a gas chamber. It was later discovered that Teresa's and Aris's betrayal was an act, but Thomas still doesn't know if he can trust Teresa any more. The Gladers, and group B, finally make it to the safe haven, but nothing is there, except for a stick in the ground saying they've made it. They all end up fighting for their lives against these creatures that seam even worst than a griever but were too easy to beat. They all made it onto a berg which was said to take them to the safe heaven, but the pilot did not accept George or Brenda coming, and said only one of them could come, but Thomas ended up saving them both. They were then promised they would get the cure and all that they were told, and were asked to relax. They are encamped in the Appalachian Mountains in western North Carolina, living in a village of huts and crude shelters. For the first time in a year, things seem settled. One day, Mark and Trina are shocked to discover that a Berg, an airship, comes to the village, and men in hazardous material suits begin shooting the villagers with darts. Mark and Alec gain entry to the Berg, only to discover the darts are full of a dangerous virus, which comes to be known as the Flare. It drives people insane, ultimately killing them.  Mark and Alec return to the village to discover that Darnell has come down with the virus. Eventually, he dies. They trek through the woods, encountering a little girl named Deedee who is unaffected by the virus, as well as the members of her village who have been ravaged and rendered insane by the virus. Mark and Alec are separated from Lana, Trina, and Deedee by a fire caused by the insane people. They are captured by people at the Berg's headquarters. Mark and Alec infiltrate the base to rescue them, and they discover three things. First, the city of Asheville has turned its back on the Berg base; second, the virus is being spread deliberately to wipe out half the world's population to conserve resources; and third, Asheville has a Flat Trans, a transportation device linked to Alaska, where the PFC, the Post-Flare Coalition international government, is based. Orders have been issued to unleash the virus. The Berg base negotiates with the crazed locals, giving them Trina, Deedee, and Lana as ransom for time to attack Asheville. Mark and Alec rescue Trina, and Deedee. Alec puts Lana, who is near death, out of her misery.  Then, they fly a stolen Berg to Asheville, where Mark sends Deedee through the Flat Trans with a note saying she is immune to the virus, and she is somehow the cure as well. Meanwhile, the Berg base's operatives storm Asheville with an army of the infected, crazy people. Mark, Alec, and Trina have all come down with the virus. On the ship across the sea, Mary befriends Martha, Jonah, and the Riverses, constantly fearing her true nature will be revealed whenever witches are mentioned which occurs whenever things go badly. Once they reach Salem, they continue on to Beulah, the settlement in the wilderness that has been built by the preceding congregation. Mary lives with Martha, Jonah and Tobias, while the Riverses build a home next to them. She spends a lot of time in the forest helping Jonah, an apothecary, learn the healing properties of local plants. Mary soon meets and befriends Jaybird, an Indian who teaches her about the land.  When Reverend Johnson asks Martha to tend his sick children, he also questions Mary's faith in God. While helping Goody Johnson, Mary learns that Reverend Johnson saved his wife from being drowned as a witch. She believes she would rather die than live Goody Johnson's life. After Goody Johnson dies during childbirth, Reverend Johnson pursues Rebekah Rivers, despite the fact that she is promised to Tobias, Jonah's son, and when his suit is denied, Reverend Johnson insinuates that he suspects Mary of witchcraft. The Vane sisters and their friends accuse Mary of witchcraft, promising to keep her secret if she aids them in securing their future husbands, but they begin dabbling in witchcraft themselves when Mary refuses. As signs of witchcraft are found in the forest, Martha finds Mary's journal and wants to destroy the dangerous memoir, but instead, Mary sews her journal into her quilt. Mary is questioned when girls' undergarments are found in the woods, but she has an alibi, and the Vanes' story is believed. However, when the Vanes are caught dancing naked in the woods, they feign madness and so a witch hunter is summoned. The witch hunter recognizes Mary from England and the other girls join his accusations. Mary flees to the Riverses' house where she is provided with food and clothes for her flight to the wilderness.
