how can technology lead to ignorance or a lack of knowledge/understanding?

50% of Teens Say They're Addicted to Smartphones

http://time.com/4316348/teens-addicted-smartphones/?scrlybrkr=778d4c8c
In the article Tara John talks about how families struggle with technology. She interviewed a couple of kids asking what they use it for. Half of them say they use it for school and most of them say they use to respond to text or use for social media and most of their parents think its a distraction. One of them quoted “The generational gap revealed in the different behaviors of teens and their parents raises the question of whether we may be too quick to label as “addiction” something that is actually a normal adaptation to rapidly and constantly evolving social norms." What i got from this article is that teens seem to isolate themselves from the real world. So they are saying that most teens are isolated from their families and the real world.

Using Your Phone At Dinner Isn’t Just Rude. It Also Makes You Unhappy

http://time.com/5178352/phone-ruining-dinner/
In the article James talk about how people isolate themselves at dinner nowadays most people don't sit and talk at the table most people are on their phones at the table during dinner. One of his quotes says “We were really curious: Is it having an impact on people’s social interactions, how much they’re enjoying the time they’re spending with other people?” and I could relate with this topic because sometimes i don't feel myself picking up my phone I just think its normal to have it in my hand checking it anytime and anywhere. And also it says “By putting your own phone away, you might be creating a positive domino effect.” So basically if your putting your phone away it making a difference people seeing you isolate yourself from your phone others would too. In this article their saying that its rude to be on your phone constantly when your around people. By not engaging in conversation it shows ignorance.

It is the ultimate time-suck! The average teenager spends more than seven hours using technological devices plus an additional hour sending text messages. Technology helps us stay connected but it removes the face to face aspect, no eye contact. Online it is easy to ignore others' feelings. Or when are in a group instead of talking we are on our cell phones. Studies have found teenagers are less empathetic than ever today. It is important for everyone to take a good look at the effects of technology has on our lives.

"Text or Talk: Is Technology Making You Lonely?" As our social networking online has increased, our offline networking has decreased.
Technology allows us to hide behind a mask and not really share our true vulnerable self. We feel connect because we have lots of online friends but in reality we don't have many people we can confided in. Many people use the internet and social media to avoid be lonely but is it causing them to be more alone. Technology is a great tool but we have to learn to use it well. Suggested tips to build a strong social network are to unplug, be a good listener, engage in your community and practice talking to others.

The more we spend on time on technology the less time we spend communicating with family and friends. If we isolate ourselves when we use technology it can lead to loneliness and depression. We will lose our communication skills the more we isolate our selves. and limited face-to-face social interaction leads to poor quality of life and diminished physical and psychological health.

"Feeling Lonely?
