@ᶜ˖⁺ sooyoung p。 @ᵐ˖⁺ taehyung k。 As someone who has known they've wanted to become a communication designer for the past almost ten years, it's easy to look at my things and say, "ah, she did a good job" if you haven't been in the field long enough. But even now, I still criticize my work immensely, and feel as though I can improve on it, a lot. I myself started at where the both of you are, lost in a world filled with infinite amount of possibilities, techniques, gadgets, etc. The first few pieces I made, when I made them, I fell proud of it. I knew they looked - not pleasing, at all - far from it, to be honest. But I knew I couldn't let the art work of people that had been doing it for seven or ten years, or longer, bring my self-esteem down and stop me from trying, improving. Instead, I taught myself to look at the art work of /masters/ of art objectively, as a learning process. I spent a year looking at tutorials, until I became comfortable with my medium. I spent another year looking at the art work of masters around me. I spent another year taking a graphic design course, albeit nothing out of this world, simply to learn other adobe products, and most importantly, learn about typography. I spent yet another year finding an art style - a style that, when people see it, they know it was produced by me amongst a sea of other craft works.

It takes many years, ups and downs, and self-criticism to be at a point where you can start producing art work you can feel proud of, even if you still know there's room for improvement. Especially, to you Joy - you're embracing it as an art form, maybe more like a hobby. And that's, a really, really good thing. Just like writing, it can be a wonderful way to relieve stress. Simply cracking open your medium, rendering images, playing around with colors. You can delve into this whole new world filled with ample possibilities - you can look at youtube videos, learn about color theory, typography, layout designs. Communication design now, more than ever, is not only /the present/ of commercial business, it's also the future. You may easily surprise yourself by finding yourself falling in love with it, and maybe even making it a future field of study.

Don't let the art work of others bring your self-esteem down, ever, love. That's not what art is about, it's about taking from one another, and learning from it, and improving, and becoming better and better as time passes. You're here now, as a novice, but if you keep working hard for it, you can be producing wonderful works. Don't ever let anyone bring you down, because we all have to start somewhere, right? We start at the bottom, so we can work on reaching the stars, love.
