Flappers are a big part of 1920s pop culture. They represented a changing world. Flappers wore flashy clothing; had new styles. They gambled, drank, danced. They handled themselves and did not need to depend on men. They were considered scandalous for their time.

Flapper pop culture was a social change. They challenged the traditions. The gender roles. Once young women got their votes, they relished the power voting gave them and they gained strength.

With many people resenting the 18th Amendment, there were many of these illegal bars. They even relate to changing gender role stereotypes as women often were patrons of speakeasies.

People started doing more leisurely activities, and buying different forms of entertainment, like going to the movie palace (theatre).

Technologically speaking, there were advancements in movie production. Silent movies were turned into "talkies" or movies with audio. There was also something called Technicolor - a method of making colored films.

Cars started to become cheaper, and with a car an owner had a new sense of freedom to go anywhere.

Automobile pop culture relates to social changes like urbanization and cultural diversity. More and more people moved to cities and purchasing cars. More people meant more development and more diversity. We use radios, we watch movies (though we mostly watch shows), we socialize through writing and posts.

Well, new communication and entertainment technologies changed what people did in their spare time. With more demand for these technologies, they kept developing -- and 100 years later, we've got a whole bunch of different entertainment and communication technologies.

The gaining of women's suffrage led to a drastically different type of woman - the flapper. The behaviors of flappers (traditionally male activities) continued to change gender roles and stereotypes. Women started getting married later, if at all, and having children later. This flapper pop culture changed everything, from flashy clothing to casual dating.

In the 1920's, changes in pop culture, like the rise of jazz music, flapper fashion, and movies, had a big impact on American society. Jazz and the Harlem Renaissance celebrated African American culture, breaking down racial barriers. The flapper showed changing gender roles, especially after women gained the right to vote. At the same time, movies and radio created shared experiences that joined people across the country. This back-and-forth between pop culture and society helped shape a new American identity during this decade.
