Earlier this semester we discussed how Black Americans are treated differently. We see white privilege and acknowledge it exists. Black Americans and Native Americans can relate in the sense of how they were taken advantage of in the past. Black Americans were segregated against and taken into slavery. Native Americans faced very similar situations. Both ethnic backgrounds faced hardships at the hands of the privilaged.

The US can make amends if they work hard to acknowledge what happened. In the past, racism was a big aspect of the US. It is our job to change this and understand and acknowledge what has happened. The Tribal Historic Preservation Officer could see some never discovered images of Native American boarding schools before. Nearly 400 government-run boarding schools were opened to take Native Americans away from their homes and shape them into “white” cultures. Native American cultures were completely wiped from the schools. This was a deliberate act by the government taking control over Native Americans.

This movement would improve the rate of climate change in the country. Native Americans believe in preserving the land and taking care of it. In general, the US works to develop the lands to continue building the nation. This increases climate change in many ways. If the Native Americans gained control over their historic lands, their acts of preservation would help decrease climate change significantly.
