My Smart Goal for Next Term! :

                    Build consistency in each topic.

I have always understood math's lessons quite well, but I always fall short because I lack consistency. Time comes where I would forget one step, or not use the right formula or technicalities. I realised this a bit too late in my time studying, but better late than never! First term was my stepping stone giving me these learnings. 

              What Exactly do I mean By Consistency?

With what I have stated in my story, I want to be able to build that muscle memory to not commit those mistakes and build that discipline to always remember the formulas and technicalities in the topics.

         HOW TO BUILD CONSISTENCY, CONSISTENTLY :

(NON-NEGOTIABLE THINGS, THAT SHOULD BE DONE ALL THE TIME)

1. When learning a specific Math Topic, write down everything necessary to remember.

2. LISTEN to teacher ATTENTIVELY and OBSERVANTLY - As simple as it sounds, it is a discipline sometimes hard to have during a grueling Math subject.

3. ASK for help when in need, when you don't ask, you prolong your struggles, and will give yourself a harder time.

4. PRACTICE DAILY - 1-2 hours of daily practice of the Math topic given every day should be observed as it is the real way to truly hone the skills and discipline in the topic.

5. PRAY - Pray to God for His guidance and strength to carry on and do well.

Oh wow, what a first term... A huge rollercoaster of a story do I have to say. For sure it was quite a journey. Oh yeah, you might be asking why I used a mountain picture, let's just say, this term felt like I went up and down a mountain.

First year back again in F2F setup, exciting! if I do say so myself. I thought my struggles in math from the online setup would disappear, and I would finally have an easy time in math again. Well... I mean you could say so that the online struggles did disappear, but, little did I know more struggles would come upon me and challenge me even more than I had ever expected. There felt like a huge level of increase in difficulty of the lessons. It started when teacher gave us our first cerebry assessment, and it was asking up till Ninja level, something unheard of for me at the time. Lets also not forget that the hardest lessons from Grade 8, at least for me, were parts of the topics given to us, but also harder. A huge mountain seemed to be in my way. Everything was difficult. I had to work so hard just to even keep up. I was able to understand it, but then again, I was still having a hard time. I did my assessments, I did decently, but with a few hiccups along the way. At first, I was very confident I had the test in the bag... Oh boy, was I so wrong.

Radicals for me, was a moderately difficult lesson. For sure it was quite a hard nut to crack at first but, I understood it, and got quite into the flow of it. I practiced quite hard as well for it, I answered everything we needed to, I wrote down everything important, and overall got myself in a good position where I thought I could really do well.

Then came the test... everything, and when I saw the questions I was like, okay, um what is this? Apparently, some parts of the topic, I wasn't able to study, so... I still did my best in answering it, but I had low confidence in my answers, and well, the results came, definitely disappointing, but I learned something important, an epiphany that I need to keep for the future.

What a huge mistake, I wish I had caught on earlier that this was the reason for my inconsistency. I always observed with myself that I always understood the process and how it is done, but I sometimes have mishaps in certain steps. I always thought it was just me being forgetful on that day. Though it took me a while to realize, it was because of my lack of practice. Not practicing every day can really lead you into moments of forgetting how a specific function or formula works, because you are not able to hone your skills, be familiar with it and most importantly build that muscle memory in your mind about that topic.

This collaborative task for sure in paper was the hardest task in the entire first term. Not only did you have to answer the difficult word problems, but you also had to write down and explain how you solved it, and not only that, you had to even take videos on the explanation with a scenario.

How did we attack this task? As a group we first saw this task and went - "yep.. this gon' be hard" but we still carried on. I took initiative and was the technical leader of the group. We first assigned our roles according to which one we wanted. I also set up our schedules for the work. Then we also found each others' strengths that work in unison with each other's weaknesses. Which led to us having an easy time with the group work, with yet an absolutely good result, and not only that it was also a beautiful experience that led us as a group build our relation ship.

Why is this my best work?

This is my best work as i truly believe I was able to unleash the best inside of me. I was able to use the leadership skills that I have to have us work in harmony. I used my creativity to create a scenario for the video, and my exceptional writing skill was also used in the script writing.
