Although there are some limitations with the Medwand device, I believe that it is something that could greatly expand healthcare access. It can be used to bridge a gap between standard in-person visits and video visits. Telemedicine came with the limitation of the lack of an assessment by the provider, and Medwand seeks to address that limitation. With a device such as Medwand, providers now have a way to more thoroughly assess these patients and can make more informed clinical decisions. I do believe more research is needed to evaluate the long-term cost-effectiveness of the device for both the patient and participating clinicians. Overall, Medwand is a step in the right direction!
