As Marlene's guests begin to share their life stories, they distinguish themselves through their different upbringings, values and conditions. The shifting narratives display that these women have experienced something common as they have all found ways to thrive in worlds controlled mostly by men. Each woman has not wanted to take on their expected role which shows the thread that binds them which is the opposition to injustice against women. Women and careers is a constant theme throughout the play shown through each character who not only comes into the agency, but portrayed in every character who comes to the dinner.
Surrealism is another theme shown through the play when the women from different historical times come together for a night of celebration.
