Sometimes the president would win the popular AND electoral collage vote, but other times one candidate would win the popular, but not the electoral. It gives power to bigger states. And certain swing states can also determine much of an election. That's why many would argue to eliminate it.

People may want to eliminate the Electoral College because it doesn't reflect which candidate was more popular with the people. It only reflects which president won more votes from the states. You can win the Electoral College without winning the Popular Vote because some of the states have more votes than others which allows whoever the state voted for to get a huge amount of votes. And then there are also swing states which are hard to predict accurately.
