At three in the morning, Coach Boone takes the team on a two hour run. This is when Coach Boone makes a very important speech. He explains how about 50,000 people fought and died, fighting the same fight they're still fighting with themselves now. He tells the team to take a lesson from the dead. He says "If we don't come together, right now, on this hallowed ground, we too will be destroyed -- just like they were." He then goes on to say "I don't care of you like each other or not. But you will respect each other." This was the speech that turned the team around and helped them take off.

This film deals with the racial injustice in a high school and on the football team. When the new coach, Herman Boone, is hired as the head coach, a lot of resistance comes up. He ends up taking the team to a football camp in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. This is where he makes the white teammates room with the black students, and learn something personal about one another.
