Animal Testing - "Dear intelligent people of the world, don't get shampoo in your eyes. It really stings. There. Done. Now f***ing stop torturing animals. ~ Ricky Gervais

Animals have been and are being tortured in laboratories all over the world. This is solely for the purpose of humans. Some animal testing is done to test products but sometimes it is to see how their bodies work. Either way it is cruel. More than a 100 million mice and rats are killed every year in all sorts of experiments ranging from toxicology tests to psychological tests. About 300 thousand bunnies are tested on every year. They are mostly used for cosmetics testing on their eyes. Bunnies are so calm and gentle, therefore they are used very often. About a 130 thousand primates are bred and/or captured from the wild and tested on every year. Primates are confined to small spaces with no food nor water. Cats and dogs are used in laboratories as well. Around 25 thousand cats are used every year plus all the cats that are killed and used in classrooms. Around 75 thousand dogs are abused in laboratories every year. Laboratories usually buy cats and dogs from local shelters for cheap and then breed them over and over again until they develop diseases. Pigs are tormented in military exercises where they are shot over and over again and then set on fire while they are still alive. Tens of thousands of pigs are used in these exercises along with the millions killed in factory farming. All these innocent animals are tortured in laboratories but since their bodies are so different from those of humans, many side effects do not show up but late do when humans use the products. Animals do not need to be tortured as many alternative ways of testing cosmetics and drugs have been found. One of those is human cell tube testing.

Trophy Hunting is selective hunting of wild game animals. In other words it is the stalking and killing of wild animals for sport. Hunting was once a necessity to survive but nowadays many use it as a sport to entertain themselves and rarely consume the meat. Hunters will often heartlessly kill the animal solely for it's skin or head. They will then hang up the head or skin of the animal on their wall to show off. Trophy terrorizes wild animals and causes extreme stress to them. Many of the animals killed are endangered.

I received most of my information from the link below:

http://www.peta.org/issues/animals-in-entertainment/cruel-sports/hunting/

Millions of people walk around wearing animal skin not realizing or realizing but not caring about how much pain the animal that they are wearing had to go through. I recently watched a video that was secretly taken as part of an undercover investigation for Marc Jacobs. Sounds familiar? Probably because Marc Jacobs is one of the most "prestigious" brands in the land. The video showed bins full of dog raccoons, who were taken by their legs beaten against the floor as if they were rugs, hung by their feet, skinned alive as they tried to wiggle their way out and tossed into a pile, still alive. This disgusted me. Who knows maybe it wasn't really for Marc Jacobs but either way it was for used for clothing. It is unfathomable for me to think that someone would do this to these innocent dog racoons.

http://news.msn.com/pop-culture/marc-jacobs-faux-fur-coats-found-to-contain-real-raccoon-dog-fur

Sign a petition to eliminate ALL fur in Marc Jacobs designs

http://www.change.org/petitions/marc-jacobs-you-were-caught-selling-dog-fur-stop-using-all-fur-in-your-designs#

Hundreds of thousands of animals are imprisoned in zoos. Animals are kept enclosed in cages 24/7 for their whole lives. While few zoos have very large enclosements to accommodate the animals as best as possible, the majority are small and not size fitting. Animals wish to be free not enclosed. Zoos claim that they love the animals and that is why they keep them, they are "protecting" them. BUT as Edwin Way Teale once said, "Those who wish to pet and baby wild animals 'love' them. But those who respect their natures and wish to let them live normal lives, love them more." If people really love wild animals they will learn to leave them in their natural habitat and protect them from being imprisoned.

Puppy Mills

According to the ASPCA the definition of a puppy mill is " a large-scale commercial dog dog breeding operation that places profit over the well-being of its dogs--who are often neglected-- and acts without regard to responsible breeding practices." In puppy mills, females are bred whenever possible and once they are no longer able to reproduce, they are killed. The puppies, many of which are born with medical problems, do not make it out of the mill alive. All dogs are kept in cages with little or no space. Many cages are piled on top of each other with no padding on the bottom. Because of this the dogs can easily get blisters on their paws. Disease is also passed among the dogs when feces and urine fall through the holes of the cages. The cages are never clean leaving the dogs lying in waste. The dogs have little or no food and water. Some will never see the daylight or get to run in the fresh grass, feeling the wind blow through their fur. People should never buy a dog from a pet store or online without seeing the parents of the puppy and the area that they were born in.

The link below will give you more information about what laws regarding puppy mills exist in your area and what you can do to stop them.

http://www.aspca.org/fight-cruelty/puppy-mills/puppy-mill-faq
