PSY 200 Weekly Analysis by Yesha Kirsten Noronha

Each week you will submit an Analysis post. This should include something interesting from the week's reading, lecture, or other assignments. Your post can be a link to a related site, a meme (with a short note about how it relates), a YouTube video that you feel helps explain the content... It is really up to you, so long as it is relevant!

Many people call this popular optical illusion "The Young Woman and the Old Woman" or "My Wife and My Mother-in-Law." It illustrates how psychological interpretation and top-down processing in psychology affect perception. Some observers picture a young woman turning away, with her necklace representing the young woman's choker and her chin representing the elderly woman's nose. Other would view it as, the young woman's jawline serves as the elderly woman's chin, and she has a noticeable nose.

The photo shows a woman in a spiritual or meditative altered state of consciousness is depicted in this artwork. Sitting in a cross-legged in a contemplative position with both eyes closed and an open third eye on her forehead. It shows like a sign of insight or increased awareness. While abstract eye shapes are formed by swirling, organic lines that emerge from her head, implying enhanced vision, spiritualistic knowledge, or a trance-like state.

In the video, Bandura's Bobo doll experiment is effectively demonstrated, illustrating how children mimic aggressive behavior after witnessing adults behave aggressively towards a Bobo doll. It emphasizes observant learning and shows how children are more likely to act violently if they are exposed to aggressiveness. The experiment demonstrates how demonstrating shapes behavior, which is consistent with social learning theory.

The image that I choose explains classical conditioning using Pavlov's experiment with dogs, the ringing of the bell and, food. It breaks down the stages of conditioning. After the dog becomes used to associating the bell with food, simply hearing the ringing of the bell eventually initiates salivation even though without any presence of food.

The image makes it easier to identify the concept of traits by arranging the Big Five Personality Traits, demonstrating how they are distinct but connected. It facilitates comprehension, comparison, and application of complicated qualities to actual behavior. The goal of trait theories is to determine and measure each person's unique personality traits. According to these beliefs, personality traits are largely constant over time and in various situations.

This image is a good example that I found to show what stressors are. A person who feels overwhelmed is shown in the example, which has several labels or arrows referring to multiple pressures. This relates to the idea of micro-stressors, which are frequent but minor causes of stress that can build up over time and cause chronic stress or burnout. Anxiety, exhaustion, and even illness can result from this extended stress response if it is not controlled.

The "Stress and the Immune System" video does a good job of explaining how psychological stress and physical health are related. It explains that temporary stress boosts immune function by stimulating the body's fight-or-flight response. Constant stress, however, causes the body to produce too much cortisol, which weakens the immune system. Long-term stress lowers white blood cell activity, increasing a person's risk of infections, a slower rate of recovery, and major illnesses. The video points out actual consequences with relevant situations, such students getting sick during finals. It shows the biological connections between stress and illness with simple visuals and explanations.
