Pre-production
Monday 25th February
Today was the first production meeting lead by Ronnie, Oliver and Tasha. We sat together and discussed how the upcoming weeks would pan out making important notes throughout. Previous to this week I had auditioned for the film and got given the role of 'Leila' which I was very happy with. I knew we would be reading the script collectively in class so I made notes on the script to help my development on Leila's character. I wrote down what I thought my characters scene objectives were and what her overall super objective was (e.g. her super-objective was to gain popularity through using social media). I knew by going through each line and giving Leila intentions and needs, it would help my performance so I did this prior to any run throughs so that I was prepared for any questions asked by the director.

The cast sat together with Tasha (the script writer) and made any changes to the script that didn't sound quite right when read out loud together. We spoke about what we thought of the characters from firstly reading the script. I thought Leila was quite an arrogant character who was very oblivious to the harsh realities of life. It was really important for me to show the change in her character however, as at the beginning of the script when she is young and innocent you can see her caring nature.

We also did an improv exercise with the director, Ronnie. The improvise exercise helped us get into the mind set of the characters and helped us further build our understanding of their persona. This was very helpful for my characterisation but, it was also very helpful and interesting to watch the other members of the cast see how they had interpreted their character from the script.

Tuesday 26th February
Today we blocked some of the scenes from the script. We began with the first scene of the script - the scene between Leila and Cal as kids where Leila is doing Cal's makeup. This was a really helpful exercise as it prepared us for the upcoming shoots. We used camera equipment too so I could have a visual idea of how the scenes would look.

There were elements of the script that I did not quite understand and this came across in my first performance. It was useful to have this time to allow myself to question both the director and the writer about these moments as then they could explain to me what the scene objectives and intentions were.

I also worked on my costume with Martina. She asked me questions regarding what I thought Leila would wear and what she thought she would wear. Together we combined our ideas and came up with outfits for each of the scenes in which she sketched in able to help me envision her ideas.

Wednesday 27th February
Today we carried on blocking the script - a very similar day to yesterday. Me and Louis took time to go into a spare rehearsal room to continue to rehearse on our own whilst Ronnie went over other scenes with the other members of the cast.

Thursday 28th February
I was not needed today so instead I worked on the script from home and learnt my lines as the director wants to run the all the scenes tomorrow without scripts in hand.

Friday 1st March
Today we ran the all the scenes twice. We received feedback and went through lines with the director and the writer in which they felt wasn't being portrayed properly. I made notes on their feedback and reviewed these when I got home to prepare myself for next week when we start shooting.

Production
Monday 4th March
Today was meant to be the first day of filming the first scene however, due to bad weather the shoot got called off.

Tuesday 5th March
Today they were filming the other characters vlog's so I was not needed.

Wednesday 6th March
None filming day.

Thursday 7th March
Today we filmed the first scene of the script where Leila and Cal are younger. The scenes location was changed for this because of bad weather and it was now being filmed in a den made up of blankets and pillows.

I arrived at set at 15:30 but we didn't start filming until quite later on (approx around 17:00). The reasoning why there was such a delay was because even though the den was inside, it was meant to visually look as if it was outside so we needed to create some sort of breeze. When we did begin however, the shots went quite smoothly. The only issue I found with the shoot is I had to sit down with my legs crossed for a long period of time which became quite uncomfortable.

We finished quite late and even though the shoot was long and overran, I felt like there was a good atmosphere overall on set and people were happy with the outcome.

Friday 8th March
Today we were filming Leila's vlogs in my bedroom at home and we also filmed Leila's reactions to the other vlogger's videos.

There was a slow start again as there was a few problems with lighting but once we got started we was quite quick at getting the shots needed. For one of Leila's vlog's I struggled to take direction as Ronnie was unhappy with how I was presenting Leila's character - I think there was a confusion with the understanding of the characters intentions here. After I had practiced and gone over the lines with the crew and asked for the advice and help we managed to get the shot. Even though the director helped me with this, Matty (DOP) and Theo (sound) really did help me improve Leila's persona to come through on screen.

Monday 11th March
Today we was filming 'The Experiment'. For the majority of this shoot Leila is pretending to be homeless so for most shots I was in the background sat on the floor with blankets around me. Because I was sat in the background quite far away for a lot of the shots, I couldn't really hear if there was any problems happening with the crew.

It was also really cold today but the crew and cast were working at a good speed and we managed to finish early which was great. The producer, Oliver, kept checking up on me whether I was warm enough.

Tuesday 12th March
Today was a really long day of filming and very cold. We did the outdoor scenes of Leila and Cal being homeless together which led into night time where we also did the confrontation scene. There was a few issues with equipment which delayed filming so we had to break early ultimately making the shoot a lot longer. We did not manage to get all the filming done but Oliver had planned ahead and said that tomorrow was going to be a day for pickups from todays shoot. We didn't manage to film the whole of the confrontation scene or the flashback scene so that would be shot tomorrow.

Whilst I was acting I found it hard to get into character when the weather conditions were so bad but as soon as we started to film I really tried to forget about the coldness of the shoot.

Wednesday 13th March
Today we filmed the rest of confrontation scene and the flashback scene in the evening. I did not have a lot of clothing on (a dress with no tights) so I was extremely cold. Due to cold weather conditions we tried to do the shoot as soon as possible.

Thursday 14th March
We had an early start today - 9:30. We was filming the 'State of Isolation' scene in the studio theatre in the New Adelphi. These shots were all visuals for the montage being used in the edit and it was really fun to do. There was a bit of a wait because the DOP and director wanted the lighting colours different for each character but we still managed to finish early.

We had another shoot that evening in town, the scene where the tourist passes and takes some art work off Cal. This was a really long shoot as the location wasn't great for the scene. It was on a road where cars would pass by and was very central into town so there was a lot of people walking by talking so we had to keep cutting the shots. Also, because it was being filmed late at night a lot of the passers by were drunk and loud so they were hanging around the set and commenting on what was going on, again, delaying the shoot.

Friday 15th March
Today I was not filming.

Wednesday 1st May
Today we reshot the experiment scene. We had a very delayed start due to horrific weather. The area we was filming was not covered and it was pouring down with rain. After a lot of discussion about what to do we decided to change location.

We arrived at the new location and got set up fairly quickly. Once we began filming, everything managed to move pretty swiftly.

Thursday 2nd May
Today we did some shots in the evening that were forgotten about during production week.
- Shots of Leila upset and distressed
- Shot of Leila walking into her house.
- Flashback Scene
- Shot of Leila looking at Mel
- Shot of the poster
We started with the shots of Leila being upset - I wasn't told much about what I had to for this performance by the director so had to improvise this a lot. DOP helped and advise me what to do for this scene. This was then followed by a shot of Leila going into her house.

We then drove into Manchester to film the flashback scene. Unfortunately, the main prop needed for this scene was forgotten about. This was very late at night and was frustrating as the same mistakes in production week were being made again. With a smaller crew however, we was moving quite quickly through the shots and worked well as team.

Saturday 4th May
Today was my first day of ADR. I had a rocky start but once I got into the hang of things I really enjoyed doing it! I had lots of support from the crew and they were very encouraging and helped me.
