In Extreme Perception and Animal Intelligence, authors Temple Grandin and Catherine Johnson describe the intellect of animals and their understanding of the world around them through their advanced perceptual abilities.The advanced perceptual abilities are given thanks to the trades that they themselves have invented to obtain a real and precise perception, since they have adapted the development of a series of much more complex sensory organs, which will allow them to receive data and messages, and thus be able to interpret them correctly.

Seizure alert dogs are a great example of animals using advanced perceptual skills.These dogs prophesy a seizure before it starts, there is even discussion over whether a dog can be trained to prophesy seizures, but it is mentioned that many dogs discovered it on their own. In short, one study found that "10% of owners said their seizure response dogs had become seizure alert dogs".

Bouvier de Flanders is a great example of dogs using their advanced perceptual skills. A woman named Connie Standley has two huge Bouvier de Flanders and she tells us that her dogs prophesy her seizures about thirty minutes in advance and they also predict 80% of her seizures. In short, even though these types of dogs were exclusively trained to guarantee seizures, they evolved and can prophesy seizures.

Additionally, Clever Hans was the horse that showed his perceptive skills of intellect. Clever Hans's owner, Wilhelm von Osten, thought that he could calculate and answer mathematical questions that were unknown to him. The effects of inquiry by psychologists, such as Oskar Pfungst, explained that Hans did not calculate, he only examined signs that humans had no knowledge of what they emitted, and the horse knew when to start and when to stop with "the taps" it gave. It was concluded that Hans trained himself.

All in all, we will realize that although we don't know everything about the animals, they can show advanced abilities on their own, such as seizure alert dogs and horses like Clever Hans. Consequently, we must investigate and report more animals with this type of intellectual capacity to know more about the animal world.

1. The solution to the problem is that we shouldn't be looking primarily for human traits when studying animal intelligence because they might not be a good indicator of true animal intelligence.
