At the age of 14, Gupta's father suffered a fatal heart attack leaving Gupta, the eldest of four siblings to take the role of money management and helping his family utilize all resources in meeting their needs. At the end of 12th standard, he was bedridden after a "near-fatal" road accident left him immobilized. Gupta was able to contribute to his family's earnings by writing articles for the Hindi Newspapers and was determined to make the most out of his situation by reading and studying. He soon has a master in economics, a double major in journalism which helped open his eyes to the world.
