President Nixon can be the person who triggered this era of ineffective and poor leaders. Nixon was the main subject of the Watergate Scandal where he would do the complete opposite of what a good leader should do when they make a mistake. However, Nixon handles it very poorly and does not take any time to apologize to his country. He was a snob and looked as a jerk, very selfish, and snobby. He tried to cover up the scandal and deny everything as well as lie and never take any blame for his actions.

This is a representation of the poor leadership in the government. When an audience ins't pleased with a performance at a show, they will resort to throwing objects at the stage. In this photo you see debris across the walls and the character's sarcastic comment reassuring the viewer of the negative response.

President Carter was not necessarily a president that was liked by the US population population either. One thing he did was give the Panama Canal to the Country of Panama. This upset the majority of Americans because the US and Americans had built it. One huge event that he is looked down upon for is the Iran Hostage Crisis. Iranians stormed the US embassy in Tehran and took American hostages for over a year because President Carter seemed to not be able to do anything about it.

This primary source is from the Iran Hostage Crisis. The rescue mission was a failure and did not work. The president tried to help but all it seemed to be was an 'effort' thing and not a true mission to fix. He did some things to make it seem like he was interested in fixing the problem when all it really was, was to show the US population that he actually was doing something and not blowing it off.

The combination of the Watergate Scandal, the failed Iran Hostage rescue, and the Panama Canal led to Americans feeling they had poor representatives in their nations government. The presidents during this time, Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, and James Carter, were seen as poor leaders due to their failure to execute plans both in foreign affairs and at the home front. The Watergate Scandal tarnished Nixon's reputation in that the people of the US discovered that he was being untruthful and no longer had faith in their commanding officer. Many had high hopes for Ford as he was to follow Nixon, but managed to upset the public again after pardoning Nixon's wrongdoings. During his presidency, Carter was unable to take action against Iran taking American hostages which greatly effected his reputation among the US people. The problem still was never completely resolved, however, I do believe that people have regained some more trust in the nations leaders since the 70's. The problem is still around today, for example, President Trump is seen and hated by much of the US population for his actions and how he goes about his life. The problem will never become better because technology is getting more advanced every year which allows people to dig up and reveal 'dirt' about the presidents. I have seen this with President Trump and how people have 'dug' up information about him which left led to people losing their trust and many changed attitudes. This was an important problem because before the 70's the presidents were seen and viewed as some type of 'God' in which people put all their confidence in. People had trusted the presidents and had faith with the government, however, after the 70's people began to look away from the government and from the president and just do what they wanted. People felt cheated and betrayed by these presidents and felt that they were no better than anyone else.

70's era was poor and needed a new start. This is what Reagan promised the country because he knew that the country was losing hope in their leaders because of their poor actions. This also shows how Carter was not able to do anything to help the Iran crisis.
