A few pockets of Delhi are much more populated than others. This results in high stress on all types of infrastructure. Economic condition of people living in such areas is dismal, air quality is poor.

A number of factors shape/ impact educational mobility in Delhi:

Education of father

Education of mother

Economic status

Parents occupation

Caste

Religion

The reflections are evident in a number of examples-
a. access to good quality schools/ education is a challenge for those in the lower economic strata of society
b. educational support to children at home may not be robust where parents are uneducated.
c. Parent's occupation has a big impact on the presence/ absence from school for the child- a labourer may migrate back to his native place taking the family along during the times in the year when harvesting of crops happens/ during festivals. this usually does not happen for skilled/ white collar parents and their children don't face this challenge of discontinuity of education.
d. Parents may also differentiate between the male and female child. this happens more when they are not highly educated or come from communities/ regions/ strata where education is not valued highly

Yes, there is a possibility to address these:
- especial support in terms of resources/ individualised attention to first generational learners
- incentives for higher education for girl child

The difference in intergenerational educational mobility maybe due to -

• Education and income of parents
• Informed stakeholders
• Access to good educational facilities
• Access to information regarding the demands in global scenario and the availability of resources ,means and opportunities to change accordingly.
School level factors may include focus on academics and core Subjects only as a criteria for promotion to the next higher grade, giving very little scope for students who are unable to score passing grades resulting in dropouts and social reproduction.
At present all schools in Delhi have very good infrastructure and competent teaching staff it is only the parents specially (those belonging to low income group )who have to be sensitised.

Further change in the Assessment pattern maybe thought of to curtail dropouts.
