@RyanSullivan Chevrolet was blamed for the presentation because Wilde was their employee, they granted him permission to present the MVP award, and due to their partnership with the MLB they were in charge of the MVP award and gift (a vehicle of their choosing that was promoted that given year). I agree that in most cases a humorous tone is not also beneficial as it can come off as not taking the situation seriously. It seemed to work here because no one was injured or physically or mentally harmed in this crisis, but it was more of a presentation failure. Thanks for noting that it would not have affected your decision to purchase a vehicle or not!

Hi Madison! Great job on your presentation. I think that Chevrolet could have done a briefing with Rikk beforehand to better prepare him for his presentation. I have learned in my PR internship that a briefing book is essential for spokespeople or company employees before an interview to provide them with all the necessary information on important topics. If Chevrolet had worked with Rikk to better prepare him to discuss the car, this would have gone a lot better. While it could have just been nerves that led to him stumbling over his words, had he been more prepared it could have made him less nervous.

I do think that ALS should have been more active on social media regarding the challenge. While they were active in sending out press and news releases, and also participating in interviews, those outlets may have less interaction than a social media post would have been. A lot of younger people participated in this challenge and unless they were avid news readers, there was a lot chance that they would actually see anything released by ALS.

They could have made sure he was professional about what he was saying.

I think that Chevrolet’s tone/voice was beneficial in their communication tactics because it made them look more personable and show that they can bounce back from something rather than become embarrassed about the situation. They made it look more positive than negative which I think is risky, but in the end very beneficial for the brand. If I were looking for a car in 2015, I believe this incident would push me into buying a Chevrolet Colorado rather than deter me.

Something very familiar! I think the ALS Association should have been more active or involved in their responses. I feel as though they were receiving attention that they were not necessarily working for. I think they definitely should have been more active on social media as that is where the people that were giving the organization attention were on there. How are they to reach the audience they desire without being active on the media in which those people use the most. I believe slacktivism can be brought up around many things that happen on social media nowadays. While I agree that it is fair for people to deem the Ice Bucket Challenge ‘slacktivism’, people or brands in general get famous for absolutely no reason and they do not even do anything.

People on social media are very critical and overanalyze every situation. The possibilities of what can happen on social media seem endless.

Hi abigail, great presentation. in terms of the ALS associati9on improving their response i feel it wasnt obligated for them as their response were grateful, while also impactful. in terms of the second quesiton it kind of pertains to my first answer as any response is a good response, but the fondation seems to have their hands full with developing life saving medicines, so its hard to expect them to put resources towards a social media marketing team, versus just having a figure head represent the company. great work!
