There are long-term factors wich help to explain why war broke out in 1939. One of these factors was the Treaty of Versailles, it was important because it helped Hitler to take power of Germany, almost all the Germans in the 1930s hated the Treaty because of it`s harsh terms that had caused many problems in Germany. Hitler promised that if he won the elections and became the leader of Germany he would broke the terms of the Treaty and make Germany a great empire.
The failure of the League of Nations in the 1930s also contributed towards the outbreak of war. This was because the League didnt have the power to stop an invation, such as the invasions of Manchuria and Abyssinia. When Hitler sawed that the League was unable to stand up to anny aggressions from one country to another he started to break the terms of the Treaty.
Economic factors played an important role. The worldwide Economic Depression caused many problems all arround the world. It weakened the League of Nationsand produced many problems between countries that set them against each other. The depression helped Hitler to get to power and allowed him to start the Rearmament of the German army. Hitler started preparing for war when the other countries were taking care of themselves instead of looking at what he aws doing.
Another factor wich helps to explain the outbreak of war is the policy of Appeasement. This policy was thought to be a way to calm down Hitler in order to prevent another war. The man most associated with this policy is Neville Chamberlain, he thought that if Britain allowed Hitler do what he wanted, he would take what he needed and so preventing a war, but Chamberlain was wrong, when Hitler sawed that the British weren't going to stop him, he started to become more powerful, taking lands an rearming his troops. But when the British realised what Hitler was doing it was to late, he was so powerful that we couldn't be stopped without going to war.
There were also key short-term factors wich sparked of the war. One of these factors was the Nazi-Soviet Pact. These agreement signed in 1939 by the USSR and the Naziss said that, when Germany invaded Poland, half of the land was going to be in hands of the Soviets, in exchange not to attack them. This pact was one of the reasons that helped the start of the war, because the USSR was the only county at that time that could stop Hitler easily. If this pact wasn't signed probably the war wouldn't started because the Soviets would have attacked the Nazis preventing them from taking Poland. This pact couldn't have happened without the policy of Appeasement because it allowed Hitler do what he wanted, even breaking the terms of the Treaty of Versailles, also Stalin signed the pact because he knew that Hitler wanted to take land from the USSR and that he couldn't rely on the support of Britain and France to oppose Hitler.
Some people describe the Second World War as Hitler's War. I think that is a good description because without Hitler there could not had been a war. His hatred of Communism, and his determination to destroy the Treaty of Versailles led to war. He consciously build up Germany's army and weapons to go to war. He had everything to do it, Britian and France and the League were weakened by the Economic Depression, making them unable to prevent a war and the Policy of Appeasement that allowed him to do what he wanted. All this factors Allowed him to go to war and almost win it.
Ciro R Roig

Facundo, take into account that some of your ncomments between brackets are informal. It is also more formal if you don´t include titles.
Nazi Soviet pact is a long or short term cause? The others?

There were many causes that led to the Second World War. Now I am going to explain the five most important ones (in my consideration):

Hitler's actions:
As soon as Hitler achieved power in the 1930's, he spend years building Germany's army and weapons. He pushed the Treaty of Versailles (he hated it) as far as he could to get what he wanted. He kept on doing this until one day the patience of the mayor powers was gone and they declared War on Germany.

The policy of Appeasement:
This policy was based on letting Hitler have all his demands, as people strangely thought that if he had all that he wanted, he wouldn't cause problems. Obviously Hitler took advantage of this, and Germany's army grew stronger to be even better than Britain's or France's. One day, he crossed the line with one of this demands and, consequently, War was upon the world.

The Nazi-Soviet Pact:
This was a pact made between Hitler and Stalin. It announced that the USSR and Germany wouldn't attack each other. Privately, they also established that they would divide Poland between both countries. This practically gave Hitler a free way to conquer his first country, starting like this the war.

The failure of the League of Nations:
The League completely failed because of many reasons and it never really fulfilled its role as an international peacekeeper. I think the main reason that caused its failure was the self-interest of the countries who were members, because, as the League didn't have an army of its own, no country was willing to send their men to war. This way, international conflicts could not be solved and it all ended up in a tragic war.

The worldwide economic depression:
The depression critically weakened the League of Nations. It absolutely destroyed the spirit of international cooperation that they had. The depression itself caused the invations of Manchuria and Abyssinia (by Japan and Italy) It brought Hitler to poder in Germany and started German rearmament. Without the worldwide economic depression, war may have never started.

These are the five main causes that I think caused the Second World War and led to the deaths of millions of people. We can't allow this to happen again.

Facundo Uberti

Victoria Rossi.
Factor 1 was The treaty of Versailles because hotler believed that the treaters was injust. The terms was war guilt, reparations, german territories and colonies, germany’s armed forces and League of Nations.
After the First World War hitler accepted it but then in 1930s he didn’t and chamberlain said that let him do what he want because it was too harsh.
Factor 2 was the failure of the League of Nations in 1930s. It was important because encouraged hitler but even if the league had been stonger hitler would still have tried to overturn the treaty of versailles and to destroy communism.
Factor 3 was the worldwide economic depression that weakened the League of Nations. It made japan and italy invade manchuria and abyssinia. It brought Hitler to power in germany and started german rearmament. Even with the depression hitler could have been stopped if britain and france had had the will to resist him. The depression didn’t make war inevitable.
Factor 4 refers to the policy of the appeasement wich came about bacause britain and france were not strong enough to keep peace as a result of the depression, which also left these countries without money to oppose hitler.
Factor 5 makes reference to the nazi-soviet pact in 1939 which allowed hitler to invade poland. The policy of the appeasement also made stallin sign this pact because the support at Britain and France would not be enough to oppose hitler.
The last factor pays attention to hitler’s actions. There could have been no war without hitler. In 1933 hitler took germany out of the League of Nations and he rearmed this country. The following year he tried to take over austria but he was prevented by Mussolini.
Introduction and conclusion?

There are a lot of causes that made the war began, but I will explain the five causes that I found more important.
The appeasment was a great failure from Chamberlain ( the minister of Great Britain ) who let Germany to rearm himself and started to transform into a powerful war machine that would raze every single country that tried to stopped them. None of this would happened if Chamberlain wouldnt let Germany to followed is own rules; for Chamberlain the treaty of Versaills after the first world war was too harsh for Germany that they should have a lot of freedom to improve their economy. For their luck, when the war started Chamberlain went out of the power and Churchill ( his succesor ) could increase the armyof Great Britain saving the countryto not be invaded from the German troops.
Treaty of Versailles is another important topic because when Hitler was promoting his politic party it helped him to convinced the people with how he would improve Germany economys and how he would transform Germany into a great powerful empire again. When the Treaty was put on Germany it almost destroyed the country, a lot of economic sactions, low and cotrolled number of troops and vehicles so hey wouldnt attacked France again and one of the most important German industrial zone was taken off and given to France.
Another important topic was the failure of the League of Nations. In the 1930s the failure of the league was imminent, Japan and Italy had already invaded other countries and because of the slow time of their decisions, their low level of hierarchy and their sanctions that nobody respect the League has no power over Germany, this helped and motivated Hitler to rearm its army wihout any problems.
If we think in the main powerful countries in the 1930s we should tallk about Great Britain, France, Italy, United States and the USSR. At the beggining of 1932, seeing the great advantage that was taking Germanyand its army, the Soviet Union was afraid to be invaded so they tried to made alliances with Great Britain and France but they didnt want to help because they dont see Germany as a problem ( althougt of that the Soviet Union was communist sp if Germany invaded them it would help France and Germany in their fight against communism ). This amde that in 1934, the USSR made a pact with Germany according that they would get the east side of Poland when Hitler invaded it in returrn to not intervene in defence of Poland. This is also an important fact because this was the cause that years later would unleash the war.
For me the most important cause that started the Second World War were Hitlers actions.Without Hitler non of this would happened, since he get to the power, with his amazing speaching skills, he get out Germany from the League of Nartions, rearmed his army and improve the country without fear and ignored totally the Treaty of Versailles to became one of the most powerful countries in the world.

Joaquin Martinez Nolte
The pact was in 1934?
Wall street crash?

There were lot of causes that let the war began but I’m going to explain in this essay the most important causes.
Te first one was Hitler’s actions. In 1933 the German government announced its withdrawal from the League of Nations. The reason was the refusal of the western powers to acquiesce in Germany’s demands for military parity. Hitler’s objetive was to increase Germany’s armed forces. In 1933 he started the rearmament, in 1934 he tried to take over Austria but he couldn’t because Mussolini prevented it, in 1935 he held a massive rearmament rally in Germany, in 1936 he sent troops into the Rhineland, made an anti-communist allience with Japan and he also reintroduced conscription in Germany, in 1937 he tried out Germany’s new weapons in the Spanish civil war and made another anti-communist allience but this time was with Italy, in 1938 he took over Austria the sudentenland area of Czechoslovakia. And finally, in 1939 he invaded the rest of Czechoslovakia and he also invaded Poland, this was one of the main causes of the Second World War.

The second one was the policy of appeasement. It consist in letting Hittler doing what he want. People think that if they gave Hitler what he wants he wouldn’t cause any problems to anyone. Clearly, this wasn’t the right way to stop him. Hitler was very clever and took advantage of this to power up his armed forces and overcome France and Britain (some of his opponents). Chamberlain, the prime minister of Britain was the man most associated with this policy although he didn’t become the prime minister until 1937. He agreed with the people that want to left Hitler doing ang having what he wants. Because of this war was getting closer.

The third cause was the Nazi soviet pact. In the beginning of the 1939, Stalin, the dictator of the USSR, was afraid of an attack of Germany, so he start to think what he could do: First, he unit the League of Nations but then he got out because he realized that it wouldn’t be successful. Then, he tried to do a pact with France and Britain against Germany but Chamberlain didn’t wanted to, and finally, Hitler offered Stalin a pact which consist that they would attack Poland and both would gain part of it. This alternative was the most successful because each of them would have what they want.

The fourth cause was the failure of the League of Nations. The league failed mainly because it didn’t achieve what they were expected to be: an organization that keep the peace in the world. The cause of the failure I think it was the countries that were part of the League. They didn’t care as far as they could and they didn’t sanction as well as they had to. They only thought about theirselves and not about what was the best for the league. The league didn’t have its own armed forces and this was another cause of the failure.

And the last cause was the economic depression. This completely weakened the League of Nations. They didn’t care anymore the cooperation with other countries. This also caused the invations of Manchuria and Abyssinia by Italy an Japan and Hitler gain enough power to start the rearmament.

This were the five main causes of the Second World War. The most important cause to let the war began I think it was the economic depression because it ended with the League of Nations who were supposed to keep the peace in the world, and it let Hitler gain power to start the rearmament.
Valentino Cabeza.
Some spelling mistakes but vg causes and explanations.

There were 6 main causes of the 2nd WW.
The USSR was the only country that stood in the way of Hitler's plans.Without the Nazi Soviet pact Hitler wouldn't have taken the gamble to invade Poland and war would never have begun.
Was it important?
The pact allowed Hitler to invade Poland but was was already inevitable before that. Hitler made clear his plans to take land from the USSR. Plus which it was the policy of appeasement that drove Stalin to sign the pact because he thought he couldn't rely on the support of Britain or France to oppose Hitler.
The policy of appeasement was critical because it made Hitler think he could get away with anything. As a result of appeasement he didn't even believe Britain would fight him when he invaded Poland in 1939. This policy only came out because , without USA, the League of nations, and it's leading members, Britain and France were not strong enough to keep peace. The depression so weakened Britain and France they didn't have money to oppose Hitler. The policy of appeasement wouldn't have been followed without these other factors.
Hitler's actions were another main factor for the 2nd wwto start. There couldn't have been was without Hitler. At each stage of the road to war from 1936 to 1939 it was Hitler's beliefs or actions or decisions that caused the problem. He was the gamble, he only did what he could get away with. So without weaknesses he wouldn't have got anywhere. He would have been forced to follow a more peaceful foreign policy and there would have been no war.
The League of nations' job was to make sure that disputes were sorted out legally. In the 1920s it created a spirit of cooperation, but in Manchuria 1931 and Abyssinia 1935-36 the League completely failed to stand up to aggression by Japan and Italy. This encouraged Hitler's aggression for 1936 onwards since he believed no one would try to stop him.
Economic factors also played an important role. The world wide economic depression weakened the League of nations.ir destroyed the spirit of international cooperation which had built up in the 1920s and set countriesagainst each other. Without the depression leading to this problems there couldn't have been a war.
On the other Hand the treaty of Versailles created a situation in Europe which made war inevitable. It was only a matter of time before Germany tried to seek revenge, overturn the treaty and start another war. The treaties contributed to the tensions Of the time but they didn't create them. Politicians in the 1930s coukd have defemded tge treaties or changed them. It was political choices in the 1930s which caused war not the treaties.
In conclusion all the causes led to the war they were all important if any cause weren't there there wouldn't be a war.
Micaela polimeni

There were many causes why the Second War World started such as Hitler’s actions. His beliefs or actions or decisions that caused this Big problem. For example in 1934 he tried to tke over Austria but It was prevented by Mussolini, or in 1935 he helped massive rearmament rally in Germany. Then there was the Treaty of Versailles which declared the peace between the Allies and Germany Durango the First World War (which meant that Germano had lost) so Hitler promoved to reverse it of he bécame a leader. Also there was the League of nations to make sure that disputes were sorted out legally, but it failed against Japan and Italy which encouraged Hitler to attack. Then, Hitler believed he could get away with anything as the Appeasment between Britain and France failed to stop him. The worldwide economic depression of the 1920s weakened the league of nations and set countries against each other ando also made that Japan and italy invade Manchuria and Abyssinia. The last cause was the Nazi-Soviet Pact between Russia and Germany because soviet union was the only country that stood in the way of his plans.
Hitler and the War's Reasons

Sebastian Aguirre
While it is true that the Nazi-Soviet pact was what pushed Hitler to invade Poland (now with the USRR as an ally to rely on), which led Britain and France to end the Appeasement and respond to his actions, it's incorrect to say it was the only reason. The Nazi-Soviet Pact, and subconsequently the invasion of Poland, is to the Second World War wjat the Killing of the Archduke was to the First World War; they were the final push that made everyone react.
The Nazi-Soviet pact goes hand-in-hand with the allies' policy of Appeasement; which was to let Hitler do whatever he pleased, defending that the Treaty's terms were too harsh or that history wouldn't repeat, these being from both from the Allies and Germany's points of view. This policy paved the way for Hitler to reconstruct Germany: to prepare it to strike back. Breaking each of the Treaty of Versaille's points, Germany began Rearmament (now being at an advantage to the Allies' unused and outdated armies), Invading neighbouring lands (which meant that they were planning on making an empire again, gaining their lands back as well), and allying with other countries like Italy and Japan for their shared anti-communist feelings. Through Auchluss, they also allied with Austria, with the justification that the austrian people wanted to reunite with Germany. This was true to an extent, but the Nazi party made it seem much more than it was by staging riots and gatherings calling for union.
Neither did Britain or France do anything to stop these actions, not only because they agreed on the Treaty being too harsh (whereas France didn't agree as much as Britain), but they both had their own economical problems (that wouldn't let them sustain another war) and social views (neither wanted to repeat the atrocities that had happened.

In conclusion, Hitler's actions, justified or not, wouldn't have gone so far without the Allies' appeasement, but it wasn't until the Nazi-Soviet pact that they had to stop it- not because of Hitler, but because it was a direct threat to their political views through the spread of communism (of which Stalin was part of, now with Germany at it's side) and Poland being invaded, which they both pledged to respond to.
Sebas, Treaty of Versailles and League of Nations?
