This picture was taken during the first day of Recweek this year - I had a shift where I had to help promote Musmos, an org for urban poor children. It suddenly started to rain, and stuff were getting wet. People were tripping and props were falling everywhere, but I suddenly felt this sense to help them despite my clothes already getting soaked by the storm. I think as someone who really feels "at home" as a "student leader", I am called to not only serve my organizations, but to assist fellow students (including fellow leaders), during times of trouble. That way, we can continue empowering the sectors we are called to serve.

This picture was taken 5 years ago where my friends and I held a fundraising project to raise enough money to provide school supplies to elementary students in a public elementary school in Leyte. I've always been an advocate for mental health, but I never really did anything concrete to really advocate for it. Ever since I started creating art, I always told myself that what I create should be meaningful, and growing up I've used art as my means of self-expression, from drawing the things I want to see to lettering the quotes I want to tell myself, and now to creating art that speaks for what I stand for. With that, I found more meaning in my art when I joined Tugon Ateneo as a creatives pool member in my sophomore year, because I got to showcase my art as I take part in the organization's advocacy to stand against child abandonment, and sexual abuse and harassment through the posters and publication materials that I create. Being a facilitator in any one of my home org's projects has been my dream ever since I started college. Even though it took me a while to finally take a chance, I did not regret applying to be a facilitator for PriME. I was able to meet new people and build relationships with my group. Moreover, I was able to be someone who was there for the participants whenever they needed help in an activity, whenever they had questions about the course or just whenever they needed someone to talk to. I've written for two theatre orgs now, and all the more outputs as a Creative Writing major. It's not the easiest to separate the works of fiction you write from your true self (hence why I chose Playwriting over Non-Fiction, sorry Sir Martin), but I've always come to believe that my works — no matter what I say or do — have always been a reflection of me and the world around me.

Through discernment, I can become more aware in both the beauty and chaos in the world. In accepting that the life can be cruel, I can also accept its beauty. In accepting life's temporality, I can accept its presence. Discernment will help me both in my craft and my character outside of it — as I become more empathetic to myself and others, I can also be able to show emotion in my craft.

With all my classes and requirements, I have been getting really stressed out and feeling really anxious. I was reminded by friends and family that I should take care of myself and take breaks but at the end of the day, I prioritized my requirements to the point of always declining when my friends invite me to go out or just have a meal together. I realized that this constant fear was not good for my metal health and I should be able to relax and spend time with my friends. So, I have been trying to pace myself and take quiet times to think and just pray so as to improve my mental health. And, I was finally able to relax and meet some friends over the weekend, as seen in the blurred picture above. I plan to improve my mental health so that I can also be an avenue that promotes mental health. and be there for my friends.

I've long been interested in making use of the things I learn as a STEM major for its intended purpose: serving the people. For this reason, I joined AGHAM Youth, and have been a member for virtually all of my college stay. Volunteering

This picture is from 2020, when I first volunteered for the repacking of relief goods inside Ateneo campus during the height of the pandemic. As someone who was really anxious about the virus, it took me a lot of courage to apply for a shift in this activity. Despite getting fatigued and worn out at the end of the day, I still found myself applying for more shifts later on and looking for more opportunities to volunteer elsewhere. It was through this experience that I was able to realize how fulfilling it is to spend time and effort for the sake of others, and I hope to do more of this kind of work in the future. - Dave Austin Siman

Loving my mom

A series of events has lead me to having a shaky relationship with my mom. Now that it has gotten better, I think I need to take more time in being intentional in loving her, asking how she is being more forgiving and also spending more time with her, not just studying and focusing on myself.

Focusing on my family

Being Around Others

In the photo is me (bottommost left) eating with my friends. I always struggled to bring myself to interact with others because of my shyness. As a result, I miss out on times where I could make others happy. Now being onsite in Ateneo, I have classmates who invite me to come join them, whether for fun or academics. I join them, and when I notice that they encounter problems, I try to give my advice, or at least be a pillar of support they can rely upon.

I genuinely think it is my personal loving response to nurture my friendships and assist them in taking care of their mental health by spending more time with them, such as having a conversation with them more and going on adventures with them. I believe that being there for others, being their joy, and being there with them in their sufferings and heartbreaks is a loving response.

My brother is a father of 2. This picture was taken as my 2nd niece, Clara was just born. My 1st nephew Lucas, who I have not seen in a while because he has a different mother. It upsets me, it makes me mad, & more than anything it makes me sad. I have found it difficult to be excited & to show my love to Clara since Lucas is always on the back of my mind -- how I want him to be able to experience the birth of his sister, them growing up together, & our family to be complete. However, I need to remember that it is more important to love to make more loving choice. With my current situation, I would like to change my outlook. Rather than dwelling on the fact I cant see my first nephew, I leave it up to God & His perfect time that one day, we will be complete again.

Reuniting With Friends

Many of us have experienced the weight of pressure and failure throughout the period of the pandemic and college and even just through time really. By being so occupied with so many things, sometimes there is just little time left to be able to catch up with your friends and family. The loving choice I want to do now is to reunite with my friends from high school and spend time together just as a breather from all the things that had happened so that we can cool off our minds and maybe just even enjoy for a bit.

This is me signing up for the org ACIL when I was a freshie. ACIL is an org that teaches Catechism and values to street children around Katipunan. Although this moment is a small decision for me I believe it helps to fuel my big decision because this org has guided me all throughout my college years. It's vocation is education, alongside it's religious roots, and we value family among members and the kids that we teach. I have learned to be a more loving person by choosing the loving option of teaching these kids and helping them through our org activities.

Life Group

As an individual, I have many goals and aspirations for myself. However, playing a sport that requires me to be part of a team has really pushed me not only to think of myself, but also the goals and aspirations of my team as a whole. As some people might have experienced, it was quite difficult to instill the values and talk about the platforms of Leni-Kiko to those who have already set their minds on voting red. However, no matter how many doors were shut, eyes were rolled, and ill jokes bantered upon me, I still continued to do the house-to-house campaign for Leni-Kiko with my friends because I knew that it was the most loving option—to be able to let the people know who and what they deserve for in the next administration. Some might say that we failed because we lost but I don’t see it that way. Every year my mom and her friends go to a small church and do feedings for the children in the community. She brought me once and thought nothing of it. But when I gave the food to the children, there smile couldn’t be removed. This impacted me to join my mom every year to bring a smile to the kids face’s.

As I reflect on what I have been doing for the past few years, I've realized that I have been placing much more importance on my relationships with others and myself. As I grow older, I also now have to start thinking of my future plans, and it may include going to faraway places for me to discover my true potential. With this, I then realized just how limited my time is with the people I hold dear to my heart. Thus I have been spending more time with my family and friends. Most especially for my family and parents who are also getting older, I've been trying to spend as much time with them even while I'm far from cebu. I wasn't the best child as a teenager, so now I believe that I have become closer with them, and I believe they've also witnessed how I've changed as a person. Same thing goes with my peers, and this is even extended to people whom I have just met. I try to be as kind as possible to others and provide them with support when it is asked from me. I also like sharing my blessings and the money I've made from my different gigs with my cousins and siblings, and donate as well to different pet shelters that are in need of help. Life is short, no one will remember your accomplishments and achievements as much as they remember how you treated them.

Helping everyone as much as possible

Whenever I'm on the road, there would be less fortunate people who would come knocking on my car's window asking for food or spare change. Usually I would just tap the glass as a sign that I have nothing to spare for them.

Lately, I've been giving back to those in need as much as possible since I've realized that I have been already been blessed too much lately. I realized that it is one of my duties as a human being to help out my fellow brothers and sisters as much as possible. As a result, I have been trying my best to give snack or at spare change to the people I see on the streets.
