This person stands in the rain, arms outspread enjoying the feel of the droplets on their face. This is meant to show how this weather really engages all of the senses. One feels the rain lightly pecking the skin and the smell of dampness fills the nose. The soft pounding as rain hits the earth and the taste as it hits the lips. The rainbow effect was chosen to show all the colors rain creates. I also wanted it to symbolize all of the feelings someone feels when they see rain. Some are happy and find beauty in the rain while other are disappointed and saddened by it. The gif is really meant to present that beauty can be found anywhere if one takes the time to appreciate it. The different physical experiences in the rain can both add to this theme and take away from it. In this gif, I was trying to present the physical experiences in the rain as positive. That it is pleasing to feel the rain touch your skin and the calming sound as it hits the ground, so I had the person in the gif have their arms outstretched as if they are happy.

First, this poem immediately engages your sight and hearing. One envisions a branch and a river. Depending on the person the branch could be large or small while the river raging or calm. One hears the moving water and then the cricket singing. This poem does not explain the situation's meaning, but instead leaves it to the reader to discover. I see it as even in the darkest situations hope prevails. This cricket is in the middle of a river close to death and yet it is happily singing. A situation can be considered bad or good depending on one’s perspective. This poem connects to my original works because each of my works incorporates an element from nature to show a theme.

Imagism, most commonly used in poetry, is using language to create strong images with the five senses. Imagism engages sight, smell, taste, hearing, and touch to present a deeper meaning. Imagist poetry does not explain the meaning, but instead allows the reader to create their own interpretation. Imagism gives the audience a physical experience with the deeper theme and therefore causes it to be more impactful to the audience. This remains true with imagism found in photos or videos. Imagism can be found found in many different media. In this portfolio, a gif, two photos and a poem contain imagism. These works strive to introduce separate themes while representing nature's beauty and how interwoven our lives are with nature.

This photo shows someone desperately holding a flower while outside. The girl feels the silky petals and soft scent of the flower that is slightly sweet. The girl looks conflicted and has a tear dripping from her face. The only color shown is that of the flower because it symbolizes positive emotions. I was going to color the sky as well, but I thought it would take the viewer's attention away from the flower. I chose a hydrangea because they are connected to heartfelt feelings which in this case are happy emotions. The photo represents that the girl is full of negative emotions and the flower represents her few happy emtions. She is holding on to the flower to hold on to her happiness. Negative emotions are connected to the positive ones and there is not one with out the other. The negative emotions can overwhelm the positive emotions. It is also interesting to note that hydrangeas have also been known to mean heartfelt sorrow or heartlessness, so maybe the flower represents the girl's source of negative emotions and is draining her of positive emotions which is why the flower is colored.

This photo utilizes the brittleness of the dried flower to show how quickly something of beauty can be destroyed. The bright color of the flower and the choice of placing the flower on the rock are meant to compare the two. The flower is very beautiful, but quickly lost and destroyed, but the rock, while less beautiful, is very hard to destroy. This is meant to show that people will often choose the flower over the rock because they care more for beauty regardless of how long it will last. The photo can also be interpreted as one must hold on as tightly to something important or beautiful for it may die at any moment. The rose is often a symbol for love, so more specifically, a love can die at any moment. The brittleness and color add to the meaning by giving the viewer a more tangible example.
