This culture is niche inside a bigger culture of people who moved around constantly and aren't familiar with a "hometown" concept. There's really only small things about the military aspect that make it different!
This may sound trivial but growing up like this forces you to constantly be the "new kid" in school every 2-3 years. I just wanted to make sure I added that there are plenty of people whose parents weren't in the military but still grew up like this!

There always seems to be a sort of radar among people who grew up with parents in the military. You can almost always see this if you ask someone where they're from or where they grew up and they have to pause for a second to figure out if they give someone the long answer or the short answer!

My Dad was in the Army for about 30 years, overlapping my entire childhood. I had lived in 5 different states in the USA and 2 different states in Germany before I was 10! To follow these numbers, I went to 3 different Elementary Schools and 3 different High Schools. I feel that this experience taught me how to socialize and meet people out of necessity as well as how to treat others who are new and following the same rotation of moving.

This type of living definitely caused me to value the time I spend with my family and be grateful

I actually just got out of the Army myself 3 years ago. I joined when I was 17 hoping to get back into the same nomadic lifestyle that was normal for me. To my luck, I was able to live in South Korea and Germany for several years before getting out! While in, it definitely opened my eyes to aspects of the Military microculture that I never saw or udnerstood as a child!
