There's really only small things about the military aspect that make it different! 
This may sound trivial but growing up like this forces you to constantly be the "new kid" in school every 2-3 years. I had lived in 5 different states in the USA and 2 different states in Germany before I was 10! To follow these numbers, I went to 3 different Elementary Schools and 3 different High Schools. I joined when I was 17 hoping to get back into the same nomadic lifestyle that was normal for me. To my luck, I was able to live in South Korea and Germany for several years before getting out!
