Chaos and Order is where there are two sides in which chaos is where things are so complex that you cannot handle it or do much about it. As for the other side there is order in where things are so rigid such as not being able to do much about a certain situations because you have no control over it. An example of this is where Jeannette and her siblings were always moving from town to town because they were not able to stay stable enough and or they were behind bills and would soon be confronted so they always did the "skedaddle." In the book Jeannette says "We were always doing the skedaddle, usually in the middle of the night. I sometimes heard Mom and Dad discussing the people who were after us." How this situation relates to the picture in which I chose is a simple clean pile of rocks and the other side is a mess in which one side is where one side of the situation is bad because it is not well for the mental health of the kids to always be moving and not being stable at one spot long enough but as for the good in this situation they did the skedaddle to Welch and that is where Jeannette and her siblings got sick and tired of all of these shenanigans and left to New York.

Acceptance

Acceptance can be very simple and complicated at the same time because you can accept the fact that something happened and do nothing about it but mentally it can drown you and cause bad thoughts. In the book their Grandmother Erma was saying nasty things to them and as well as abusing them to the point where they had developed a hatred towards her. One day Jeannette had enough of Erma and had told Rose that she hated Erma but Rose Mary did not feel the same instead she had said " You should never hate anyone, even your worst enemies. Towards the future this would apply to Jeannette because she had to accept the way her mother lived and was and she could not do anything about it. The picture I had chosen is the represent Jeanette as she accepts everything in her life and the way she grew up because of her parents and all she could do is strive to become the best version of herself.

Broken Promises

Broken promises can hurt a person a lot in which if they do not keep their word they will have that gut wrenching feeling of guilt because they did not live up too or complete their promise. We can see this with Jeannette when she feels as if she is not completing the promise that she had made to Maureen when she was just born. Jeannette says that "At times I felt like I was failing Maureen, like i was not keeping my promise that I'd protect her." The guilt had came in because she felt as if she was not trying her hardest and was not able to do the things she said she would do such as give her hot beds, a warm bed, and steaming bowls of Cream of Wheat. In the picture it shows a cracked pavement representing how Jeannette's heart felt and the promises she made as well because we saw how Maureen turned out in the future so Jeannette develops guilt starting in Welch.

Forgiveness

Forgiveness is a very strong thing to do with your heart because you are accepting and forgiving the things that someone or something did to you and that is one of the biggest things to do with love. Throughout the book we can see Brian and Jeannette constantly forgiving their parents for their dumb actions and decisions out of the love they had for them and accepting that this was their lifestyle. Jeannette was the strongest out of all three of them because she was the closest to her dad and he would take advantage of that many many times and she had never stopped forgiving him for all of his actions. Jeannette had said towards the end of the book that " Despite all the hell-raising and destruction and chaos he had created in our lives, I could not imagine what my life would be like and what the world would be like without him in it. As awful as he could be, I always knew he loved me in a way no one else had. The reason i had chosen this picture was because of the quote used in which it represents how strong Jeannette was for always forgiving her father.

Fantasy Vs Reality

Fantasy vs Reality can have a lot to do with gaslighting and manipulation to a person because they can be taught or showed to believe in something even if it sounds crazy but they always bite into it. The reason Jeannette had named the book "The Glass Castle" was because of Rex's fantasies of building a Glass Castle but it never came to life. Jeannette was manipulated by her father since a young age about this Glass Castle in which he said all he needed was the resources and land such as even in Welch where they had dug a huge hole to start the foundations of it and Jeannette kept falling for it until it started to fill up with garbage and that is where she started to lose hope. Rex was so delusional that he had claimed "All we had to do was find gold and we were on the verge of that. Once he had finishes the Prospector and we struck it rich, he'd start work on our Glass Castle. On one side of the photo is represents the Glass Castle in which it seems spectacular but as for the other side it shows the reality of it in which it was simply not possible.

Disappointment

Disappointment is a very heart breaking feeling because you think this person or thing is so great and you face the reality that maybe it is not how it seems. We see this constantly only within Brian and Lori with Rex and as well as Rose because they are always doing the wrong things to help their family. Brian has always had it rough with his parents because they usually do not part sides with him such as when he was molested by Erma. In the book we see this with Brian when it says "he mumbles that is father has let him down." I chose the picture to represent Brian and how he feels so isolated and disappointed in his Mom and Dad because of their actions towards him.
