Sagmeister studied graphic design at the University of Applied Arts Vienna and went on to design album covers for the likes of Jay Z, Aerosmith and The Rolling Stones.

He received a Fulbright scholarship to study at the Pratt Institute in New York.

At 15 years of age, Sagmeister started his career in graphic design.

Tibor Kalman was his main influence during university; he called him every day for half a year until he eventually got to speak to him.
