How many carts will be shared for a grade level? Multiple classes use chromebooks for their lessons. Would they need to shift to paper materials when they can't use the chromebook chart or would there be enough carts for all classes to use at once?

A lot of kids have Chromebook assignments for homework (iXL for Math) and if students are absent, then they do not have access to Chromebooks if they are absent.

1st period check out - 7th period return. Carts are in 1st period and 7th period only. There are MCPS schools that do this. We need to connect with them and see what system they use. 1st period sign out number with a different return number.

If students have their own Chromebook, they should have a burrrllly case. The cost of the case should be off set by the reduction in broken and abused machines...

Coordinating with other classes will be a nightmare.

I think it would be great to not let the students have their own chromebook. They don't appreciate them and they abuse them. Also, now that we are not virtual anymore, they will benefit from less dependency on the computer and spend more time present in the class using paper and not with a distracting screen in their face all the time.

Prior to COVID, teachers had carts, so Chromebooks stayed in each class, and kids used them as needed, and left them in there at the end of the periods.

It is understandable that we are in this position because there was not a plan in place to hold the students accountable for damaged Chromebooks and there still is no plan despite numerous attempts over the years. However, the lack of planning and being afraid to enforce any consequences on the students should not be the reason that why we are going back to the 2010's. We don't have good copiers or enough Kleenex or soap in the building, let alone copy paper. That is extremely wasteful in paper and time resources.

Each teacher should have their own set of Chromebook carts. We tried the "check out" system when we first got the carts. It was chaos.

Sharing Chromebooks

If we share our classrooms, and another teacher uses the cart of chromebooks, how do we ensure chromebooks aren't being destroyed by that teacher's students?

I also worry about the time it takes for each student to get their chromebook from the cart, and put them away, as that takes valuable class time.

Penalizes the Good Kids and Teachers

We are penalizing the students who do follow proper Chromebook etiquette and properly handle their Chromebooks for the mistakes of the students who have been allowed to mishandle Chromebooks without any consequences.

This penalizes teachers who have spent a great deal of time designing lessons and materials that utilize modern technology.

Chromebooks Should Stay in Classrooms

Class sets of Chromebooks should be kept in each classroom. Once this is started there will be way less Chromebook misuse and abuse thus saving the school and county money within one year.

It would also lessen the amount of time students are "getting" their Chromebooks from their lockers improving time in class.

If we aren't able to get a cart for each classroom, can we share carts between cohorts. 1-2 carts for each grade level is not going to be enough for teachers to share. If we share between cohorts, it will be more manageable with planning.

It would be nice if we could sign up for chromebook usage at the beginning of the quarter. I only use chromebooks for the end of unit essay, and if I knew in advance when I had access to chromebooks I could organize my plans to lead up to that week over the course of the quarter.

There are no Pluses with this concept. This should have been considered, discussed amongst the staff who actually teach in classrooms, and decided before staff transfer season.

In so many classes, students have the ability to use the "Read to", "scribe" or "Text to speech" features on their devices. Will we receive more para educator staffing to accommodate the needs or will those students be provided with guaranteed technological support? There is no way that teachers can provide adequate support for classes of 30+.

It is too drastic of a change to go from every student having a Chromebook to having to share them. How far in advance will teachers know that they have the cart for the day? What about testing days? I think that having enough Chromebooks at school is much more important than having Chromebooks for students at home.

Difficulty of Extended Online Assignments

In English, we typically draft and revise our essays online, and we write one essay per Quarter. This process can easily take 1-2 weeks, so not having access to our own cart presents quite a challenge. We also have a variety of required computer-based assessments which will also make scheduling for laptop carts a challenge.
