From this single page in the book, I wonder how Melody will react from being left behind. In the next few pages, it states that Melody really wants to go to school. She wants to act like nothing happened at all. I think this is super brave of Melody. Also, I believe it makes tons of sense for Melody to question this situation. Without her questioning, she wouldn't have been able to regain her confidence and decide to act brave. As I read this page the main question I ask is, what will Melody do? Overall, this specific page brings up a ton of questions in my mind.

As I read this page, I made three huge connections. Melody is scared that in the future, Rose may not like her any more. Possibly because of her disability and the lack of communication between the two. For a text to self connection, I would say that I feel the same way. Sometimes I'm scared too that a friend won't like me. For a text to text connection, I would say that in the book called, "A Dog's Way Home", The main character Bella, is nervous that her new friend, Big Kitten won't like her. Lastly, for a text to world connection I would say that lots of kids in schools nowadays feels this same feeling. The feeling that Melody feels when she thinks about her relationship with Rose in the future.

The first part of this page makes me wonder how all of this trouble will come to an end. Melody has been through so many different events during this book. First meeting Rose, then getting her Medi-Talker, later taking the Wiz-kids test, getting left behind for Washington, and Penny getting hurt. It makes me wonder how this book could possibly have a happy ending. I infer that Melody will eventually go back to school and everything will turn out ok. I think Mr. Dimming and the rest of the kids will apologize. So much has happened to Melody that there has to be a happy ending, right?

This part of the book paints the best picture in my head. The author uses such extreme vocabulary that makes a vivid image of horror in my head. At this part in the book, Melody is screaming because she knows Penny, her little sister, is somewhere outside. Suddenly, her Mom backs the car up and feels a soft thud. Melody's Dad comes running outside saying, "Where's Penny! Where's Penny!" Her Mom gets out of the car and screams for a very long time. Melody described that she screamed louder than the ambulance sirens. She also states that it seemed like she was just forgotten in the front seat of the car while the rain poured in through her window. This part of the book made me sad but it definitly made an interesting image in my mind.

It was really difficult to find the right page for this one but I did. So much has happened to Melody in her life, so I will sum it all up here. To start, Melody has never said a single word in her life. She can't talk, walk, use the bathroom or doing anything by herself. She spends her day in room H-5 with other kids like herself. Even though Melody can't talk, she has a photographic memory and she is super smart. One day, they decided to put everyone in classes together; all the other kids and the H-5 kids. Melody meets Rose, her first real friend. Soon after this Melody gets her Meditalker which allows a robot to speak for her. Melody is so thrilled. One day, Mr. Dimming, one of her teachers, decides to have his class take the Wiz-Kids test. Melody easily passes the test. So after a while of Mr. Dimming thinking she wasn't smart, he finally decided to put her on the team. Eventually, they go to their first competition and win. Soon after this they would be heading to Washington. Sadly though, their flight gets cancelled and her team and Mr. Dimming end up going to Washington on an eariler flight, leaving Melody behind. They end up losing the competition anyways. Later, Penny ends of getting hit by a car. Overall, the story does end happily with the team apologizing to Melody.

The main character, Melody Brooks developed a lot during this story. When the story first starts Melody seems frusturated. I would be frusturated too if I couldn't talk. Also, I think Melody seems bored. I would say this because every year they teach her the same stuff in room H-5. But as the story starts to progress Melody starts to make relationships. She makes good friends like Rose and Catherine. I think by the end of the story Melody is definitly more sure of herself and I also think that she has built better social skills for herself compared to the begining of the book.

The theme of this book is super cool! I would say it's,"Don't judge a book by it's cover." I know that's a pretty basic theme but it's true! This book is really just about how people judge Melody for having Cererbral palsy. Everyone thinks that Melody is not smart and that she's not capable of anything. But they were totally wrong.

I think the main way that the author develops the plot is through problem and solution. Whenever Melody has an issue, they always fix it somehow. For example, when Melody couldn't talk, they bought her a Meditalker. Or another example would be they left her behind and when they got back from Washington they gave her the trophey. This happens continuely in the story. Another one is that she can't hold anything so they built her a tray on her chair. The author constantley uses this method to move the plot along.

The author of this book, Sharon M Draper, has some of the best writing skill I have ever seen. This book has amazing figurative language! For example, on page 261 it says,"The day started out like crystal, but the day has turned to broken glass." That is my favorite line in the book. Whenever the author wrote about how Melody was embaressed, sad, or nervous, I could truley feel her emotions. There are a lot more places in the book with figurative language just like this one. That's why I love this book because of the simile and metaphors.

This book is one of the best books I have ever read! It truley has a great message. I love how the author uses figurative language to describe how Melody is feeling. ANother thing I love about this book is that it's so realistic. It doesn't sound fake at all. Melody is such a courageous character that it makes me bubbly inside to think of how brave she is. She has gone through so much and she is such a trooper. I also think this is a great book because it lets younger kids know what it's like to be Melody. Before I read this book I always wondered how does it feel or what is it like to haver cerebral palsy.
