narrowing their research topics getting scholarly resources correctly citing their sources

1. Navigating databases;

2. Finding the "right" keywords to find relevant articles;

3. Understanding that each article they find is "in conversation"

with other articles; that is, these articles are always in response to

other ideas, so finding one article is like a chain reaction of locating another relevant one;

4. Identifying passages in the articles that helps build and sustain a debate in their paper.
