         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>INTRODUCTION TO STATISTICS</strong><br><br><br>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;In this age of information technology, it is important to know how raw data are processed and translated into useful information. Because of society’s ever increasing need for information technology, education should develop in students an understanding&nbsp;of the concepts and processes of statistics. Statistical data are concerned with quantitative or any kind of numerical data such as figures on sales, ages, tax returns, population, births, deaths and many more. All types of discipline have problems. In order<br>to solve them, the solution to these statistical problems needs the application of mathematics. Thus, these activities offer rich opportunities for mathematical inquiry, as well.Statistic is important to other disciplines, such as the sciences and social studies. Statistics involves the use of numbers, measurements, estimation, prediction, and problem solving. These processes are used to substantiate the research findings in such&nbsp;<br>fields.

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>HISTORY OF STATISTICS</strong><br><br><br><br>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;It was Gottfried Achenwall who first introduced the word statistiks in a preface to a statistical work. It was Zimmermann and Sinclair, however, who introduced and popularized statistics in their books. Girolamo Cardano, an Italian mathematician, physician, and gambler, wrote Liber de Ludo Aleae in which appeared the first known study of the principles of probability. Another gambler, Chevalier de Mere, made a proposal to Blaise Pascal in the famous Problem of Points, a work which marked the beginning of the mathematics probability. Marquis de Laplace’s Theorie Analytique des Probabilities of 1812 stabilized and supported the said theory.Modern theories of statistics were attributed to the great names like Abraham De Moivre (1667-1754) who discovered the equation of the normal curve, Karl Pearson who made an extensive study on correlation among several variables, and Ronald Fisher who made discoveries on unified theory for drawing rigorous conclusions from statistical data.Just right after the World War II, the need for basic understanding of statistics arose. Statistical literacy became a necessity in today’s modern world. Nowadays, the use of statistics has extended to such things as theatre attendance, sports results, car sales, in a certain period of time, heights, weights, birth rates, death rates, and other things that can be expressed numerically.

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>WHAT IS STATISTICS</strong><br>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;<br>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Statistics is a branch of mathematics that deals with the theory and method of collecting, organizing, presenting, analysing, and interpreting data in order to obtain useful and meaningful information. There are two major areas of statistics, descriptive statistics and inferential statistics.Descriptive statistics is a statistical method concerned with describing the properties and characteristics of a set of data. It refers to the collection, organization,&nbsp; presentation, computation, and interpretation of data in order to describe the samples under investigation. It does not try to draw inferences or implications regarding the&nbsp;<br>population. The method can either be graphical or computational wherein it is used to&nbsp;present and analyse information in a usable, convenient and understandable form.Inferential&nbsp;statistics is a statistical method concerned with the analysis of a&nbsp;sample data leading to predication, inferences, interpretation or conclusion about the entire problem. This is the process of obtaining information about a large group from the&nbsp;study of smaller group.
