-What about the setting has peaked your interest?
In Flawed, It takes place in a time where doing certain things can get you flawed. Being flawed inst a good thing. In this dystopian society where you technically do not do anything illegal, you can be marked. while reading this it has interested me in a lot of different ways. How did they come up with this government system? why did they? But the most interesting thing to me is when celestine gets caught for trying to help a flawed man. Dying and sick. celestine tried to save someone. This was interesting because as they say these people do not do anything illegal, They are still treated bad and basically shunned by society. Even under these circumstances, The government and no one will let her help.

How has the author taken a flat character and turned it into a living, breathing soul?
The author has taken a flat character that seemed to abide by society rules and stereotypes into, a inspirational character that stands up and tries to change society for the better. This sudden change was influenced by the people in her life, causing her to shift her view of the rules that she has lived by her whole life. In Chapter 3 when Celestine watches as her long time neighborhood get taken by the Guild. This experience left her questioning the society she has grown up in. Celestine's character transformation has been fueled by this life-alternating experience.

Discuss the author’s use of suspense at the start of the novel. How does it impact your interest in the plot?

In the beginning we learn about how the main character, Celestine, agrees with the flawed laws and how she thinks they are totally fair and should be used. We start to see this new/other side of her when her neighbor gets taken by the flawed. She starts feeling this guilt building up inside of her. When she notices a "Flawed" choking, she rushes to help him. In the book the Author creates suspense by using really short chapters. She also creates suspense by describing her surroundings and the noises they here. "I expect them to go to the old man, who has passed out on the seat, exhausted and taking short breaths, a fin layer of sweat covering his skin. But they come for me me. And then they take me away." (Ahern 49). In this chapter the author leaves us feeling a bunch of suspicion because we don't know what will happen after or if she will be marked flawed or not.

Trace the changes of the central character. How has that impacted you?

Throughout the book Celestine goes through enormous changes as she become a flawed member of her society. Celestine has become more socially aware of how wrong her society is about human perfection and how easy it is to become flawed. For example, in chapter 31 Celestine walks up to Colleen who' mother was recently deemed flawed, and tries to talk with her. However, in early chapters she was too frighten of what other would like to go up and talk to Colleen. This gesture shows how Celestine morals have changed due to her new outlook of society. These changes have taught me to not judge someone just because their different or society says that they are less than you.

As if it is going slow to really explain the feelings of each character. I like that about the book. I feel like the book is not rushing so that I can focus on one part at a time. I think if the book was any faster it would have made it confusing for how much is going on with celestine and every other character. As in chapter 31, it takes a chapter to discuss what it is like for her during her school day. Giving us more detail about how the society is when someone is flawed. Rather than 1 page it makes me understand the different points of views.

As the author writes this story, you here more and more about the branding. she uses specific words in order to really engage us in the plot. when she uses these words, we cant help but put a gross image in our heads which makes us want to keep reading to not only see how she deals with her wounds but also what will happen to her and how people will react to her.

"Flawed" is a book full of surprises. When Celestine was marked flawed, we were all shocked. Obviously when she was going through this process, she was experiencing many different emotions. One being fear. When she started aiding the flawed man on the bus, she felt guilty. She started realizing that the flawed laws were very unfair, so when she saw a chocking man her initial reaction was to help him, so she did. She probably felt scared about what the outcome could be and if she was going to get caught, so when she got caught, she was terrified. Going to court and ruling everything out was probably a very scary process. Once she was declared flawed, she probably started fear the branding process. This book is full of twists, turns, and fear. I can't wait to read about what happens next!

Empathy In Flawed

Throughout the book Flawed we can see a lack of empathy for flawed citizens of their society. After Celestine returned to school she was told that her teachers weren't going to allow her in her classrooms anymore. The teachers show a lack of empathy towards Celestine who is one of the top students at her school because, of the fear and hidden prejudice towards the flawed. Only few character have shown the flawed empathy in the text, first it was Celestine who help a flawed man on the bus which was the reason why she was branded flawed. Also when Celestine returns home she is surprised by the empathy her parents show her understanding that what their daughter went through was completely unfair. In the book there are many example that support the theme of empathy and the lack of it towards the flawed. In their society perfection is standard and anyone below that is shown as a damage person that isn't worthy of compassion or empathy.

In flawed, Celestine plays the biggest part in how the story plays out. what happens. whos involved. but not matter what happens she is strong. She is easy to connect to. Not in the way of I know how she feels. but how bold she is. One major moment is when Logan takes her. Humiliating her and embarrassing her. Taking pictures. She is terrified. Through all of this she has a heart. To not stand up for herself. This defines her as a person. Scared but kind enough to not say anything.

How does the author create “aha” moments in his or her text?
Throughout the text, Ahern moves the text around to surprise us a little bit and it those surprises comes the "aha moment". For example, when Celestine's neighbor got taken away by the whistle-blower. We kind of knew that this was going to happen because when Celestine's family and Art's family were supposed to be having dinner together, they were late and since Art's dad is the governor, he called the whistle blowers on them and we were lets in shock at first but then actually understanding why this happened. I feel like the author uses this to draw out attention and to also feel more interactive with the book.

"I look at all the Lisa Life articles she has left behind on the table.. I realize as I read them all that I have only ever said these words to one person and that’s to Pia. Pia is Lisa Life"(Ahern 51). This quote shows that Pia only has shared her secret to Celestine which builds their connection. This has made me think that there are lot of citizens that don' believe in the system but are to afraid to directly speak out.

In chapter 57 Alpha announces Celestine's arrival to the fellow flawed. "I know it’s going to happen before it happens. The double doors are pushed open. Lulu stands in the doorway. “The Whistleblowers are here,” she shouts, panicked. Then, as the sirens take over, there is no more silence." This quote shows the Whistleblowers coming to stop the gathering. Catching Celestine off guard I wonder if Alpha had something to do with the Whistlelblowers arrival. Ahern uses this cliffhanger at the end of the chapter to leave the readers wonder what is going to happen next and if Celestine may be taken back to the castle.

The part I most related to was when Celestine tried to help the chocking flawed. Once she realized how the flawed system actually effected her after her neighbor was taken away, she felt bad and this has happened to me before. There have been a few time where I thought something was okay but never understood why and then once I saw how it effected me, I quickly changed the way I viewed this topic. Some examples of this is politics. Sometimes people are more effected when they watch false things on TV but until they see what is actually happening in the world, their opinions might change.

Flawed is a very emotional book. With ups and downs. Victory and defeats. But throughout all of the texts, the author Ahern does a good job on her word choice. She uses descriptive words and phrases that you can imagine. For example "I swallow hard". Now that i a short quote and a short sentence but as the reader i can really imagine what is going on. I feel connected with the characters. This is also good for when she is trying to create emotion. In the beginning of the book when celestine was being branded, The author used such powerful words that made us feel for celestine.
