We are trying to save the Boulders Beach Penguins. They live at the coast of South Africa. They weigh around 4-8 pounds, 20" tall, and have a black stripe across their chest.
Why do these penguins need to be saved? Their eggs are being stolen, and all their ice is melting due to global warming.

While doing some experiments, I learned that metal might feel colder than plastic, but they probably are the exact same temperature. I have also learned that because metal is a good conductor, it can get both hot and cold, and because of that, it can make ice melt faster than plastic in a warm environment.

Today we tested out different materials to see which ones were the best insulators, The 3 best ones were Aluminum, Mylar, and Cotton. Those had the least temperature increase, so they should be the best to use in building a house for the penguins to live in.

Today we created our prototype. We used Aluminum Foil for the walls and floor. We put a door in the side, and Mylar as the roof. Our prototype didn't work as much as we wanted it to, because around 80% of the penguin melted. What failed the most was the use of aluminum foil as the floor.

Some changes we made on our final house for the penguins were, glue things together instead of tape (Tape doesn't reflect like Aluminum foil or mylar does.) and we made the floor into foam instead of more aluminum foil (Aluminum foil gets warn when reflecting heat, so it can melt the penguin if it touches it. We only lost 49%, which Is an improvement for last time. I think we could have added some insulation for the walls to get even less of a percentage loss.
