I think for this mid term, I did well and i tried to explain each number very brief and simple to correlate to my understanding but, this made the answer more broad and not much depth into it and I will try do be more critical with future examination.

The activities in the class were meaningful and the discussions were insightful.

What could be improved: I would love to experience the learning process through more engaging discussions and activities. I would also feel more comfortable engaging in discussions when the feedback and questions from my peer were more constructive than demeaning.

During this course, I have acquired more knowledge about a range of concepts about second language acquisition including behaviorism, acquisition-learning hypothesis, metalinguistic awareness, and contrastive and error analysis. A good example was how lessons were designed in a way that linkages were made between theory and practical examples. The discussions made me realize how abstract theory, such as hypothesis of Krashen or sociocultural theory of Vygotsky can be applied to the actual teaching and learning scenarios. Another thing that I liked about the activities was that they promoted critical thinking and not rote memorization. They also helped me become more self-assured when analyzing the way learners learn a language and correlate it to my own learning experiences.

The half of the semester did really put my mind into a lot of thinking and made it rough for me but, personally I really enjoy and it serves well as a evaluation for the future and a great opportunity to sound my opinion and I remember a Latin quote that is very popular "Carpe Diem" which means seize the day and i have to be grateful for this learning experience.

The previous half semseter went pretty well. I think I have got some foundation about language acquisition. I like developmental errors in L1 and L2 the most.

For next half semester, I think assigning some resources materials before the lecture would be more relatable for students. Letting us do the group discussion, group works and presentation can help us understand the concept more. Just listening to what the lecturer said is pretty boring.

Getting ideas mainly from one student frequently may made the other less involved. I think we should hear the idea from everyone.

P.S please also grant as "present" for SEP days.

Thank you. Pak Eka.

Thanks to this class, I have gained resourceful knowledge on what linguists or educators should do when learning 'language', and (analyzing) those who are in the process of learning a new language. The lessons and theories I learned have guided me to a deeper understanding of metalinguistic awareness and behaviorism, and it has also helped bring clarity(?) to my personal language analysis/essay (How Indonesian teens vs adults learn German/Deutsch)

Through our lessons, I have learned many valuable concepts about language learning and development. I gained knowledge about first language acquisition, including how children naturally acquire their mother tongue through interaction and exposure. I also learned about language disorders and delays, their different types, causes, and how they affect learners’ ability to communicate effectively. Understanding these helped me realize the importance of early identification and appropriate support for learners with such challenges. Moreover, I explored learner characteristics and the various factors that influence learning, such as motivation, age, aptitude, and environment. I have also understood the differences between first and second language learning, including how second language learners develop linguistic competence under different conditions. The lessons on individual differences and classroom interaction showed me that each learner has a unique way of learning, and teachers should adapt their methods accordingly. Lastly, I learned about the main perspectives on language learning—Behaviorist, Innatist, Cognitive, and Sociocultural—which helped me understand the different theoretical views that explain how people learn languages. Overall, these lessons have deepened my understanding of how language is learned and taught, and they have made me more aware of the complexity and beauty of the language learning process.

I have learnt a lot from these classes, especially the intricacies of English and language learning. I can't exactly recall any specifics, but I'm sure I'll be able to apply these skills to my life. Studying in these classes has also changed my perspective on certain things, especially sentences and sentence structures. I've done well in analysing and explaining grammar, but I still have a lot to learn, since I still make mistakes. I also feel like I could have done better in these courses by understanding different perspectives of learning languages rather than only focusing on one, which, in my case, was the cognitive perspective, since that's what I most relate to. I will try to improve next semester.

Over the past half semester, I’ve really enjoyed our Language Acquisition and Development classes. I’ve learned that language developing isn’t just about memorizing words or grammar rules, but about communication, interaction, and motivation. The group work and discussions helped me understand the lessons better and remember them more easily. What I liked the most was being able to share my own background knowledge and experiences and connect them to what we were learning. It made the class more meaningful and fun for me. Overall, this course has helped me see language learning in a deeper way and given me ideas I can use in my future teaching.

This semester in the Language Acquisition class has been a valuable learning experience.

What Went Well!

gained a deeper understanding of how people learn and acquire languages, both as first and second language learners. I was able to grasp key theories such as Krashen’s Input Hypothesis, Vygotsky’s Sociocultural Theory, and Chomsky’s Universal Grammar, and relate them to real-life classroom situations. In additional, the development stages of learning L1 and L2 is quite effective in helping my students. I actively participated in class discussions, which helped me exchange ideas and strengthen my critical thinking. I also became more confident in analyzing how language learners develop their skills through interaction, exposure, and meaningful communication. Overall, I felt that my theoretical knowledge and classroom application improved throughout the course.

What I need to improve!

Although I made progress, there are several areas I need to improve. I sometimes found it difficult to recall specific theorists and their main ideas during case studies. I need to read more in detail again to relate all the theories and to be able to compare with real classroom scenario. In addition, I need to work on providing more concrete examples that connect theory to real teaching practice. To improve in the next semester, I plan to review course materials regularly, read more scholarly articles, and practice applying the concepts to classroom scenarios. By doing this, I hope to strengthen both my theoretical understanding and practical application skills.
